Is it a good deal to buy the AA miles with bonus offer

Is it a good deal to buy the AA miles with bonus offer

    Hi all,
I did ask this question earlier, but still have not made up my mind about buying AA miles with bonus offer. I can buy 150K miles and get 115K miles as bonus. The cost is :
    Cost $4,425.00 USD
    Federal excise tax $331.88 USD
    Processing charge $30.00 USD
    Total charges $4,786.88 USD
I am thinking of flying to SouthEast Asia in Dec with my family. I am thinking to use these miles for business class one way and then pay the cash for business class back.
Do you think it is good to go ahead and buy the miles for this.
    Looking forward for the feedback
    Thank you,
    Aman

Have you identified saver award space for your family for your desired dates? Assuming that you have nailed down that end of it, I would go forward with the purchase. If, however, you are speculating that saver space may open up for your dates, for the number of seats you desire, then I would personally not proceed since there is no guarantee that space and the number of seats you desire on given dates on the same flights will appear.

Thank you Gia, I did not think about this, I will have to put more thought into this now.

Yes. American allows you to hold awards up to 5 days. If you find space, hold it then buy the miles. The purchase of miles usually posts to your account instantly.

If you’re unsure or can’t find space on a routing that works for you, I wouldn’t purchase the miles just yet.

Thank you David. I think I will probably pass on buying the miles this time, even though the bonus of extra 115K was pretty tempting. I was going to use them sometime in Dec or next year.
