    Hi Lucky – I am planning a trip for 2 to Australia from the US next spring (early march). Will primarily be using AA miles. Of course my first choice would be Etihad first on the A380. Haven’t found any availability so far JFK-AUH or AUH-SYD (or vice versa). Business seats seem available on the A380. The other option is CX first class. So far, I’m able to find one first and one business class or two business class seats there. My question is, is EK business on the A380 worth trying (for the experience) and what do you think of chances for even one first apartment seat to open up (using AA miles)? I think on Cathay there might be an opportunity for first class seats to open up closer to the trip but would you rather take etihad business and stick with it or CX business with the chance that you might get first class later but also ultimately end up in business? thanks so much!

    @ portakal — I’d say there’s a good chance Etihad will open up space as the departure date approaches. Do keep in mind that routing through the Middle East or Asia would require quite a few extra miles with American, as the only way to get to Australia on one award with them is to fly “direct.”
