Is BA First worth the extra Avios

Is BA First worth the extra Avios

    Ben,

Thanks for the great blog and many hours of interesting reading.

My wife and I are flying back from AMS to ATL this summer after a Baltic cruise and I booked 2 CW seats on BA using 168k Avios for the two tickets. (I had about 240k just sitting there as I never fly AA due to living in Atlanta). I know this isn’t great use of Avios, but we wanted to fly Biz class and I couldn’t get anything on DL/Skyteam for our date. Would it make sense to upgrade this booking to First for the LHR-ATL leg? It will cost 218k Avios if we make it a First trip, but we will get access to the Concorde Room and pre-book spa appointments during our 3-4 hour layover at LHR. Since it’s a day flight, would the extra 25k Avios for 2 be worth it in your opinion? We can’t change the date and I don’t want more than one connection so I don’t think there are other Oneworld options besides BA.

    Thanks,

    Paul

I would. You’re already paying the fuel surcharges for a premium cabin, and it’s not that many points in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks – I thought about it more after I posted and pulled the trigger. Looking forward to it!
