if I want to use AAdvantage miles to Europe is the only way to redeem them on the AA website?
Ben, Sorry if this sounds dumb but if I want to use Advantage miles to Europe is the only way to redeem them on the AA website. It seems that they only offer flights going through LHR with those high taxes, fuel/carrier imposed fees on BA. Looking to go to another European destination (Rome) and would like to avoid London and the fees that go with transiting to / from LHR.
Can I call and put another routing together that does not show up on the routings they show on the website?
@ Tom — They might be able to find some other routings by phone, but otherwise I’d try to search segment by segment. Take a look at space to DUS or TXL on airberlin, which wouldn’t be subject to those high surcharges. It shouldn’t be too tough to add connections to the same award at no extra cost. Good luck!
Tom–Go to YYZ or EWR with AA miles or Avios. (Separate tickets) Then Jet Airways (AA code share) to BRU and IB to FCO via MAD. All on one ticket from North America to Rome and back. If you come back via YYZ, you can clear US in the YYZ airport while you are between flights. Of course, you can go on AB, too or all the way on IB. IB does have some YR/YQ fuel surcharges.
