I earned United miles on a BA award ticket

I earned United miles on a BA award ticket

Had something interesting happen last weekend that I thought I’d share. I redeemed 22,000 BA Avios for a business class award on JAL from MNL to HND. Unfortunately the flight was canceled at the last minute due to mechanical problems. I convinced them to rebook me on ANA because the next available JAL flight was likely to be canceled due to weather. The rebooked ANA flight was ticketed in C fare class. I associated my UA frequent flyer number with the booking and earned 7,400 miles for the flight (as well as PQMs). This is probably a pretty unusual occurrence, and I doubt it can be hacked, but as a points geek I got a kick out of it. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
