Hilton 5th Night Free vs. Points + Cash

Hilton 5th Night Free vs. Points + Cash

Looking at a property where we’d need to buy a significant number of points (over 1M split among 3 of us – if we can even do that) to be able to do the 5th night free on points. Do we have to have enough points for the full 5-night stay to be able to book it as an award stay and then they later refund the 5th night’s points? Or if we have enough for 4 nights is that enough? We’d only have to buy around 800K then.

I’m also considering booking a points + cash reservation but when I get into the booking process it appears that the resort fee is not waived on p+c stays like they are on full points stays? Did I interpret that correctly? Does being a Diamond get any of that waived?

I’m still crunching the numbers to see which option makes sense though it almost looks like points + cash will be cheaper than buying points.

Would love to hear what you all think.

Update: after speaking with my fellow travelers we’re not going to be choosing this option but I’m still curious about how many points I need to have in my account for the 5th night free option and if resort fees are waived on points + cash options.
