I recently booked a trip involving CX F and JL F segments with AA miles. I was trying to get seat assignments, but it seems as though on CX almost every seat is blocked out for premium passengers (I was able to score 1A so I’m pretty ok with that) and on JL, every window seat is either taken or blocked out. Does anyone know any tricks to get JL, particularly, to release a window seat in F? Only one out of 4 is taken, but from one I can tell, they are stingy with row 1 and the other row 2 window is currently blocked out for a pilot rest seat.

I was looking into this a while ago and I think some people had reported success with contacting the call center.

I probably should have mentioned I tried the call center and they refused to budge.

You could try again at some point closer to the date of travel if things are not taken already. Don’t know of any other work around unfortunately.

[USER=599]@chasgoose[/USER] — Did you call the US call center, or the one in Hong Kong? The HKG call center will assign whatever seat you want for CX if you call them.

I haven’t tried JL lately, but again — I would try calling Tokyo directly. I think they give less flexibility to their US agents.

Also, haven’t had time to call the reservation centers, but it was a good thing I started looking into this as I noticed that both my seat assignments on the intra-Asia legs of my trip were gone due to equipment changes. Both were in my favor though, as HKG-BKK changed from a regional A330 to an A330 equipped with reverse herringbone seats and HAN-NRT changed from a 767-300 to one of JL’s brand new 787-9’s with the new SkySuite seats. Now I get to try some of the best J products out there in addition to some of the best F ones.
