Flight Help for 50th and 21st birthday

Flight Help for 50th and 21st birthday

    Hi there,

I am 17, and so need all the help I can get. I’m from the UK, and I’d like to book premium flights for 4 people from London to Los Angeles/San Francisco in July/August 2016. I have read the blog for months, but this will be the first time booking flights by myself and using miles(dad normally does it, but I’ve told him there are ways we can spend miles better). He is allowing me to use what miles he has (around 200k Avios, 150K flying club) and to purchase miles as and when needed.

We are flexible with dates, and I understand it will be hard to get 4 premium seats in first/business, so I am happy to fly economy and let my mum(50th), brother(21st) and dad(all-round good-guy) fly premium, as it would be nice to see them enjoy the trip.

What are the best ways to get from here to LA, and possibly with a stop-over in Hawaii as Mum wants to go there.

I appreciate any help, thanks very much!

@MattB — Welcome! Given the high fuel surcharges on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic awards, the best value in your case might be to buy Premium Economy tickets and then upgrade using Avios.

Otherwise, it can also make sense to watch for sale, as there have been some good fares when departing the EU.

You can of course use miles, but to avoid fees you’d be looking at 2-3 flights in each direction, at a minimum.
