Exact hour that CX flights leaving HKG become bookable with AA miles

Exact hour that CX flights leaving HKG become bookable with AA miles

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hey there,
At what time during the day CX flights leaving HKG become bookable with AA miles? I know that AA makes award seats available 331 days out but is there an exact hour? Since the flight is leaving from HKG would I have to look at HKG time or one of the US time zones for this purpose? Thanks!

I would *guess* that the hour would be just past midnight US Central Time since AA has offices in both Dallas and Chicago, both of which are on CT. But if someone else knows better, please chime in.

You might be able to figure it out by doing a quick test. You didn’t mention which time zone you’re in, but whatever zone it is, do a search on the AA website a bit before and a bit past midnight Hong Kong time. For example, if you’re on Pacific time, midnight in Hong Kong would be 9:00 am Pacific time. First, do a search a bit before midnight Hong Kong time. For example, 8:50 am Pacific time (or the equivalent for the time zone you’re in) would be 11:50 pm Hong Kong time. If you don’t see award seats on the AA website, then try the search again a bit after Hong Kong midnight time (ex., 9:10 am Pacific). If you then see award seats, that should be a good indication that the seats are released at midnight Hong Kong time (of course, all this assumes that seats are released at midnight – it could very well be some other hour).

If the above doesn’t seem to work, try searching just before and just after midnight Central time (whatever time that would be for your time zone). With a bit of sleuthing you might be able to figure out, for your time zone, when the seats become available on the AA website.

@AKguy that’s a good general method to determine release times but just want to clarify that CX is not searchable on aa.com so the OP won’t be able to determine time there.

I’ve been calling AA the past few nights just after midnight CST. They don’t show up immediately. In both times, it’s taken around 30-40 minutes to show up in the inventory. These are only two data points. I’ve seen other blog posts that state that it can take up to a few hours. Hope this helps!
