EVA Air RT Economy Flight from SAN to DPS for 2 in August?
I have 180k Unite Miles and am trying to figure out the best way to use them to save as much as possible for a family trip to Bali (and a possible stopover in Taipei) in August.
My wife’s uncle is turning 60 and he wants to celebrate by booking a hotel in Bali for some extended family from 8/15 – 8/19, so dates aren’t flexible.
Me and my wife are most likely going to bring out one-year old and 3 year old with us as well. Also we’d prefer to fly Eva but not sure if it will be the most cost effective. I know we are going to have to pay for some of the tickets but again, we are looking at getting economy tix and not first class or anything like that to save as much as possible. Help!

Just a quick question, but how many of you are there in the group?
United charges 80k miles round trip in economy and 160k round trip in business, on partners (including EVA Air) so at most, you have enough for 2 pax. Do you have any other miles to work with?
Chase UR points can be transferred to United and AMEX MR points can be transferred to Aeroplan for travel on EVA. 90k/155k rt for econ/business.
It’ll be easier to plan and book if you’re okay with splitting up passengers onto different flights and pay change fees to switch when availability opens up.
You could also do two paid tickets and two award tickets. Alternately you could save some more money by traveling with the 1 year old as a lap child.

David, not sure what you mean by the last statement. When I go to book on United’s site, there is an option for LAX to DPS for 40k one way departing 8/12, but there is no economy saver return flight anytime close to the date I wanna leave (8/19). I checked from TPE too (if I choose the option of paying for a flight from DPS to TPE at the end of my trip) and there is no economy saver availability.
Is there any way to get around this? Some creative open jaw or stop over booking?
It looks like the most ideal situation is as Gaurav said- if I could book 2 adult award tix for 160k total and just pay for my 3 year old and lapchild.
Thanks for your quick responses!
@VfromSD — don’t assume the United site is showing you all the options. Start by searching from TPE to LAX, SFO, SEA, or YVR. Then add the shorter segments once you’ve found a date with space.
