Europe OW J Award

Europe OW J Award

I already secured space home from Vienna to ORD on Austrian using UA miles, but what do you guys recommend for an OW J class award using AA miles to continental Europe. I really don’t want to go through LHR due to the fees and all that. This is for a award the week of Easter.

I know this sounds really complex and, if you are just looking for a quick way home this isn’t for you but, I found the following itinerary looking on AA.com:VIE-CDG-(AirBerlin)HEL-JFK-(Finnair)CLT-ORD(American). Obviously, the other option is to fly VIE-MAD-ORD on Iberia.

If you’re avoiding BA you’re down to Finnnair, AA, IB and AirBerlin. Especially around a holiday I would lock in whatever is available.

Keep in mind that while you don’t get the BA fees, you still get the UK taxes which are higher than the rest of Europe(~100$.)

I booked the awards today, $5.60 fees for ORD-LHR on AA, and $81 fees for VIE-ORD on Austrian, interesting I got my Austrian ref number from ua, but couldn’t choose a seat with it on Austrian, I put it into Lufthansa’s website though and I could

Hopefully BA’s first wing is open when I’m at LHR, excited to check it out
