Emirates upgrade using my points
HI Team,
My last couple of flights with emirates have been as follows;
2014 – Business class LGW TO BKK RETURN
2015 – Business class LGW TO SGN RETURN
I am a silver member and have 59.5 skywards miles and have an emirates credit card.. I am looking at purchasing an economy ticket to go from LHR TO BKK RETURN on flying 27th April returning 8th may 2016. Unfortunately I cant afford to go business class outright, I was wondering do you have hints / tips to find a cheap upgrade on the day ?
Looking forward to your response.
Mason
If you purchase a slightly more expensive economy fare, it might even be upgradable in advance. The base fares can’t be upgraded until day of, but the next tier — the website spells it out pretty nicely when you’re shopping.
Hi Tiffany,
Thanks for your response. i have looked at different possibilities of upgrading, but it doesn’t seem possible to upgrade portions of the legs. i looked earlier and i think i need 75k each way to upgrade from ECO to Business. i have also noticed that to upgrade from LON to BKK its 1.1k and the return leg is £700. do you know why the return journey back to the UK is always cheaper ?
i have read the article on here regarding departure tax and stop overs in the UK, but i wasnt sure if this could explain the price difference ?
Regards
Daniel

Reason for higher prices out UK is local taxes on Premium cabins, no UK tax going the other way.
