chase/united points
Hi Lucky,
I’m looking to take a trip from Austin to Mexico City on United (possibly southwest). How would you recommend going about getting a business/first class seat for the least amount possible? Also, would you recommend I use Chase Ultimate Rewards (78,300) or the mileage plus program?
Thanks,
Amakari
Welcome @amakari – what time of year are you wanting to fly? I picked a random Sat-Sat trip in October and tickets were under $400 in economy. From Austin the flight to IAH/HOU is less than an hour and IAH/HOU-MEX is less than 2.5 hours.
If you’re set on using UA miles you can get tickets in business for 30K each way. If you’re short on UA miles you could transfer URs to your United account to top it off. Or you could transfer your URs to Singapore Airlines as they charge 20K each way.
Personally, for such a short and relatively cheap flight I’d fly economy and earn miles rather than burn them. But a good use of miles is something that makes you happy.

Hi,
I’m actually going in October. I think you’re right and I’ll just buy economy tickets since the flights are both so short and “first class” on those planes are never worth it. I just wanted to check out if there was a hack to get upgraded for free or for a reasonable amount of money/points.
Thanks for the advice!
