Cash price vs. Reward price

Cash price vs. Reward price

I have been accruing Chase points for several years and want to cash them in for flights over Christmas. I want to fly out of our small local airport less than 1 mile from my house vs driving 3+ hours to the major city and actually found really good fair for $421 each — it’s on American airline (our only carrier at this airport). .. Problem is .. On Chase redemption site the same ticket is close to $650 each .. Negating the whole “you’re points are worth more eith travel” scheme. I already checked British Airways and they aren’t offering the same flight even if I do drive to the city to fly out of .. So transferring the points to BA is out. …. Does anyone have any other ideas of how I can actually use my points and still get the best ticket price?
