Cash price vs. Points

Cash price vs. Points

Go. I have finally racked up Chase points and want to use them for flights. The issue is i found tickets for a purchase price of $421 but Chase redemption center has the exact same tickets at close to $650 .. Which totally negates the “your points are worth more if used for travel”. I want to use our local small airport instead of sting 3+ hours ti the major city so my only option from here is American Airlines. I tried to find the flight through British Airways since chase points can convert to AA but they don’t have that flight .. Or even the connecting one from the city, on their redemption site either. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can use my Chase points but still get the best price for tickets?

Welcome @Headinsouth – If you can find saver award space on AA, you should be able to call BA to be sure they can see the flights and then transfer your points over and have the BA agent book the flights for you. Remember that BA prices flights on a per-segment basis so you’ll need to add up the cost of each leg to see how many Avios you’ll need.

Yes, it’s frustrating when the price in the Chase portal is far higher than what you could buy outright with cash but that’s just the way it is sometimes.

Thanks. I called BA .. flights aren’t available in their system. I guess i will just pay cash and then cash out my points at the dollar for dollar instead of using the travel rewards. The flight just dropped again today .. So now it’s like a $200 difference per ticket using reward points. The Chase card rewards is such a joke. No value whatsoever.
