Can you claim request an award upgrade with one airline if points are credited to another?
Hello!
I used to travel quite a bit for work and pleasure but recently switched jobs so it’s mainly for pleasure now.
I have Silver Star Alliance status with Aegean and I’ll be flying international with United in a week or so. I have sufficient miles with Aegean for a seat upgrade but was wondering if I needed to be crediting the flight to Aegean to do so.
From my understanding, since I’m traveling economy and won’t be getting 100% of miles if flying United and crediting to Aegean, it would be better to credit those miles to United. If I did, would I be giving up my opportunity to request for an award upgrade with my Aegean miles?
Thank you!
Tariq, you can only use UA miles to upgrade a seat on UA metal and even then only a few fare classes (usually Y & B) can be upgraded. To use those Aegean miles for an upgrade, you’d need to buy the ticket through Aegean and be flying on Aegean metal. Sorry.
