Buying miles to upgrade to biz on AA

Buying miles to upgrade to biz on AA

  1. Anonymous Guest

I am flying to Europe (Milan) and the expected dates are july 28-aug 16 (roughly)
I have 31,722 miles and can buy 20k for $442. I need 50k to upgrade my coach tickets to business. I havent purchased my tickets yet but last year I paid 1300ish and the year before 1500ish. So does itmake sense for me to pay roughly 1400 for my flight plus an additional 442 to fly business? Keeping in mind that my flight is lax-jfk-milan. and its subject to availability. 25k miles is from here to italy, if the upgrade is only available for lax-jfk, jfk-milan, or lax-jfk-milan it all still costs me 25k miles. So A. theres the risk that I cant upgrade at all B. that I get only one way c.that I only get one leg of the trip………hope this makes sense, not sure if i used the right lingo im new to all this.

Saba, only you can decide whether the risk is worth it or not. Like you’ve laid out there are no guarantees here and you’d have to be ok with purchasing miles at that rate as a worst case scenario.

Keep in mind that there is a cash co-pay in addition to miles as shown on this chart:

    Hello Saba.

Read this tread on Flyertalk, cheap J fares plus hotel when booking true AA vacations.

It might not work for you, it could be worth to have a look if you have not already purchased the Y ticket.

Just for your information, Skyteam and *A have sales of J to Europe cost around 2K USD at the moment. But I assume you are an Oneworld flyer?
