Best Way To Use Avios For Flights To India

Best Way To Use Avios For Flights To India

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hello everyone!

I have been reading this blog for some time by now and just need some help. My family and I are planning a trip to India this Christmas and I would really like to surprise them with some First class tickets and put into practce what I have been reading on this blog!

We are based at LHR and would like to fly into DEL. There are four of us and would we would need return flights. Ideally, we would like to fly around the 14th Decemeber and return just before New Year’s Day. The only points I have are 200, 000 avios and don’t mind spending all of them. I would love to be able to surpsirse my fmaily with return first flights but if don’t have enough miles just first in one driection and business in the other would also be fine.

I just need help on which airllines I would be able to use them on for the best expereince ( route doesn’t have to be direct) but even BA First would be absoltely fine. I’m just not sure if 200, 000 miles is enough for return business tickets for 4 people.

Thank you so much for everyone who was written on this blog…I know more about the aviation industry and learnt so much about airlines since I started reading this blog and thanks to everyone who will post down below…you will really make my family trip!! Thanks so much everyone!!

BA’s awards are distance based and they charge 150k avios plus US$760 round trip in fees, on Finnair. They charge 200k avios plus US$650 round trip for BA First Class.

Avios are most useful for short haul redemptions.

Are you able to get any AAdvantage miles, either US credit cards or buying miles? They charge 85k per person round trip business or 125k for first. While flying BA will incur high fees, traveling via Finnair, Qatar or Etihad will not. I think EY or QR will be your best options.

Tiffany has mentioned that Avios can be useful to upgrade paid tickets. You might consider booking with cash and using your Avios to upgrade. Keep in mind that is a busy time of year to the subcontinent so I would verify upgrade space before booking tickets.

Upgrading on BA as @Gaurav points out would probably be your only chance with 4 pax and only 200K points.

Also finding space for 4 in F might be hard, you should be prepared to split your group up.
