Best award value NYC-Asia (4 stops)?
Hi Ben (hi all!) – looking into booking an award flight to Asia from NYC and wondering which option offers more value. Need to be in HKG, KUL, ICN and TPE (maybe BKK or MNL too but that seems a bit too ambitious).
My thought is to use Alaska miles on CX first for NYC-HKG (stop)-KUL (dest). Then use Skymiles for KUL-TPE on business. Avios for TPE-ICN then finally UA business ICN-NYC.
Or can transfer miles to Alaska (whats a good partner?) to do return CX first but that seems like a waste to be in HKG twice.
We have lots of miles/points all over the place so pretty flexible on redemptions but the cities are pretty fixed. Open to better ideas and thank you.
Are you spending any time in TPE and ICN or are you simply wanting to transit these airports?

Thanks David – yes, planning on spending three days at each of the cities so unfortunately not less than a stopover/24 hrs.
Have you thought about maybe booking a round trip UA award? US-South Asia round trip in business class is 160k miles.
EVA Air JFK-TPE, stopover, TPE-KUL
KUL-HKG with Avios or Alaska Miles
Asiana HKG-ICN, stopover, ICN-JFK

Thanks – that’s the other option I’m thinking. Except I’m tempted by the Alaska CX first award.
Not a bad option, CX F.
You can also try to go for ANA and Asiana First, changing the outbound to JFK-NRT/HND-TPE, stopover then EVA Air TPE-KUL. It’ll be 100k more miles, round trip.
I think UA will also let you get a bit creative with your routing, like LH F JFK-FRA-Asia.

Thanks so much! I did try to book on UA but no dice online. Probably have the stopover/open jaw rule unclear. NYC-ICN (stop)-KUL(dest)-NYC seems to be working fine. But when I try to add HKG or TPE to the itinerary either way, coming up with an error. Would you know if it’s possible to add an open jaw here somewhere?
might be a bit too complicated for UAs online tool. Verify that each individual leg has availability, and call UA and ask them to book for you. I THINK they have phone fees and you can try to ask it to be waived since youre having trouble book online.
