BA showing Cathay availability but Alaska is not
Hi all,
Not sure if anyone’s ran into this issue lately –
I have been using BA’s website to check for Cathay’s availability and have had success booking with my AA miles in the past. Lately, I started collecting more Alaska miles, and just phoned Alaska to book my desired flights after finding availability on the BA website. However, I was informed by the 2 reps that I called that they cannot book me on the desired Cathay flights, as Alaska is not showing the same availability.
Has this happened to anyone before? Is there anyway to get around it? I was under the impression that as long as BA’s website shows availability on Cathay, then Alaska would have access to the same inventory.
Thanks for the help.

Google “ba shows phantom space for partner awards” for lots of more articles
I use both BA and JAL to confirm Cathay availability because of the phantom space issue.
