AS Miles on Hainan Airlines: How to get to HKG?
We booked AA award tix on Cathay Pacific Business Class before the devaluation for the return leg of a city break Hong Kong and island break Hainan trip in Oct/Nov 2016.
We’re excited to fly SYX-HKG-SFO in relative comfort.
Now I’m all jazzed to took for AS award tix for the outbound and to turn the trip into a
Beijing-Hong Kong-Hainan break (with the stopover). My initial search shows award availability as wide open for our flexible dates.
Our goal is to fly SFO-SEA-PEK(stopover)-HKG.
However, I’m not seeing any way to get directly from PEK to HKG.
Does Hainan fly to HKG from PEK?
I’m happy to fly to SZX instead, which appears to be an easy MRT or ferry ride to Hong Kong, but I’m receiving mysterious error codes that my date is unavailable. I’ve tried many dates to no avail.
Must we instead fly to CAN instead? It looks like there are train rides of two hours from there to Hong Kong.
Thanks Lucky for your good work. Thanks in advance to any and all who respond.
Joan
Try calling AS and see if they can pull up PEK-SZX inventory. I’d also sign up for Hainan’s own program and trying to look for award space that way. SZX is going to be the better option compared to CAN. The train to HK is 2 hours from GZ East but it’s going to take you 30-45 mins to get from CAN to GZ East.

Welcome
Hainan don’t fly to HKG from any airport.
For destinations served by Hainan try the flight map on their website.

If you are planing to visit the island of Hainan you can get there by Cathay subsidiary DragonAir that has direct flights from HKG, bookings is possible with Avios.
Or a paid ticket true Hong Kong Airlines.
