American Airline Business/1st class award tickets that reduce certain legs of trip to economy class

  1. Anonymous Guest

I recently got saver frist / business class round trip award tickets to Ecuador for my wife and I. The trip consists of 4 legs. Two going and 2 legs returning. One leg going and one leg returning was economy class. Why does AA reduce 50% of the trip to economy class even though the tickets are awarded as fully first / business class? Do first / business class seats ever become available closer to my departure date and will I have an opportunity to claim them? If so, what is the process to change the economy seats to first / business class seats? Thank you in advance for checking into this.

There are probably just no saver award seats on the legs you need. When/if a seat becomes available in business class, just call AA and tell them to change your ticket – AA does not charge fees for this kind of change (there might be a slight change in taxes though)
