Alaska is blocking all CX awards between Europe and Asia
Hi there! Long time reader here. Thanks for a great blog.
I’ve faced a problem with Alaska MP program apparently blocking all award space between Europe and Asia on Cathay Pacific. As you know Alaska has specific rules and allowed routes for each partner. They do allow awards between Europe and Asia on Cathay Pacific (and it’s indicated in their award chart). It used to be fine and AS displayed online just usual CX availability. I personally booked myself a ticket from MXP to HKG in the past. However at the moment AS is showing zero availability on CX in all classes until the end of schedule from all CX European gateways: LHR, LGW, MAN, CDG, BRU, FRA, DUB, MXP, FCO, AMS, BCN, MAD, ZRH. At the same time CX releases generous availability to partners. Close to every flight is available to partners in economy, a number of flights are available in business. The award space could easily be booked via BA.
Of course I called Alaska MVP G 75 line a couple of times but it didn’t help a lot. Even with a supervisor I didn’t get further than “computer says no”. I also tried to reach Alaska via Twitter but never heard back.
These awards are (or were) of a really good value, as business class ticket costs only 42,500 miles each way (and you can have a stopover). So it’s really unfortunate development.
Maybe you can run a post calling Alaska out. Hopefully it would help to resolve that.
