Airline changes to award ticket

Airline changes to award ticket

  1. Anonymous Guest

I booked an award ticket to Auckland a couple months back leaving thanksgiving evening around 9:30pm out of phx. Today I get an email that they changed the first leg of my flight to leave at 1:30 pm instead, therefore disrupting my thanksgiving day plans and forcing me to figure out something to do for almost an entire day at my first layover. Is this typical of award tickets? Do I have any leverage to have them change it back? Now I’ll likely have to get a hotel for the day.

Schedule changes happen for paid and award tickets. If the original flight is still operating you should absolutely ask to be placed back on it. Before calling, look up some alternate routings that might be better for you even if there is no award space currently showing. If the airline is making a change you can often have them open up space on other flights.
