Aeroplan or MileagePlus for redemption on Austrian?

Aeroplan or MileagePlus for redemption on Austrian?

    Hi everyone!

I’d love your thoughts on the better program from which to redeem miles for J travel on Austrian VIE–>LAX.

    55K miles + $336 USD with Aeroplan
    70K miles + $68 USD with MileagePlus

For me, the difference of 15K miles feels like it’s worth more than the difference of $268, plus with Aeroplan I can book the award 18 days earlier than with United, increasing the chance I can get seats (I need 2).

    Am I missing something?

Assuming I go with Aeroplan, I’ll need to transfer in 53K miles (I have 57K already). What do you recommend — 43K SPG or 53K Amex? (Aeroplan doesn’t partner with Citi or Chase, correct?)

    Thanks so much!

    Todd

Todd, I think your logic is spot-on. I’d do Aeroplan too. You get the extra window to book early, and 15,000 points is definitely worth more than $250 to me, as well
