Accruing LH miles?

Accruing LH miles?

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi travel friends,

I will be flying premium economy on Lufthansa from CLT-FCO and returning from VCE. These flights were booked by a cruise line and since I’m unable to find out the fare class, I can’t be sure exactly how many miles I’ll accrue on this trip. It’s doubtful I’ll fly LH again anytime soon so I’d rather acquire miles on a partner airline. If it helps, I have two travel goals: traveling business class to LHR and also to HNL. What are your suggestions for mileage accrual? How about when it comes time to spend the miles? FYI – I also have the Chase Sapphire card and have lots of points there. Thanks!

Hi KeGo, once you get your LH confirmation number from the cruise line you should be able to look up your flight reservation on the LH website and find out the fare class. It may also be on your boarding pass. Then you can check wheretocredit.com to see your options. United is the obvious one but there are other choices.

It seems like UA or SQ have been suggested as the best, but now that I see the fare basis I’m even more confused! Here’s what I found:

CLT-MUC UA (doesn’t start with 016) 150% (I’m assuming that’s the case since it’s ticketed by LH) or SQ 100%

MUC-FCO and VCE-MUC are Y and is the same 150% for UA and 100% for SQ.

Then MUC-CLT is N and SQ and UA are both 100%.

So can I safely assume UA is the right way to go?

Yes, I’d go with UA. SQ miles expire after three years regardless of whether or not there is activity in your account. UA miles get extended each time you add or redeem miles in your account and it’s pretty easy to do that.
