AA reinstatement fee to switch from AA to BA?

AA reinstatement fee to switch from AA to BA?

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi Ben,

I was sure I understood AA’s change rules, but maybe not. I’m ticketed on AA from SEA-DFW-LHR. The BA nonstop from SEA-LHR now has availability, but AA wants to charge a $150 reinstatement fee on top of BA’s fuel surcharges. I thought you could change to any OneWorld partner for no penalty, but there would be a penalty if you added an Alaska flight (non-OneWorld) as a connection. Is there really a $150 reinstatement fee to switch to the BA nonstop?

    Thanks,
    Todd

@ Todd — You do pay that fee if you are changing the type of award, unfortunately.

It sounds like you currently have an “American/US Airways” award. Changing to a “Oneworld/Partner” award is what triggers the fee. 🙁

Stupid technicality, unfortunately, but Tiffany is correct.
