AA new “Web Special”

AA new “Web Special”

I recently redeemed reward for travel on American. As I was going through the process, first thing I noticed is the award calendar showed one number (50,000 miles) for first class travel. As I moved the next screen, the miles change to 53,000 miles with no explanation. Then a dialog box popped up… This Trip includes a “Web Special” – and an option for a non-web special that was 83,000 miles that allowed for changes without a fee. Wondering if this is the new policy for other airlines as well?

re: the change from 50K to 53K – is your trip within the next couple of weeks to a month? Seems like I remember seeing something that trips get a little pricier close-in but that may have been on United, not AA.

We were booking about 6 weeks out.. it wasn’t a big deal, just had no seen this on any of the airline sites.. AA.com is easy to claim rewards and have always been helpful when traveling. I just found the Web Special to be a new twist in the reward areas. Thanks!

Oh well the web special is not super-new. It’s just a more restricted award in regards to changes. If you’re happy with the dates and destinations they can be a really good deal.
