AA Miles on Cathay Pacific to HKG

AA Miles on Cathay Pacific to HKG

Hello and let me start by thanking everyone who contributes to this site. I would never be able to have options like this if it weren’t for OMAAT.
I’m trying to get my family of 4 to HKG for new year on Cathay Pacific. My wife n I are taking our dads. We have enough miles to get everyone in first, and would be ok with business or two in first, two in business ect… I know the Cathay trend about not releasing award space till last minute. Being that it’s the last week in December when we’re trying to leave and trying to come back during the first week of January, do you think it’s too tall an order to use the AA miles for this? Would Cathay adjust their trends perhaps because of perceived demand given that it’s New Year? It seems there should be enough US gateways for something to become available, even if we have to be on different flights. (which I would hate bc there’s no money in the world that could buy the look on a parents face when they experience first class for the first time)
    Thanks for your help.

Hi! Are you talking about traveling in a few weeks? If so, I would highly recommend at least having a backup return flight booked.

I don’t think you’re reasonably going to find four seats open up on a single flight at this point, and you don’t want to be stuck in Hong Kong without any return option given how busy that first week in January typically is.
