Ritz-Carlton is getting into fashion, apparently, as the hotel group is collaborating with Madrid menswear label Late Checkout on a unique collection…
In this post:
Ritz-Carlton x Late Checkout fashion collaboration
Ritz-Carlton has launched its inaugural capsule collection, in partnership with fashion label Late Checkout. This drop is titled “Late Checkout: A Ritz-Carlton Story,” and it features “nine meticulously curated pieces that redefine everyday luxury, elevating wardrobe essentials with a dash of irreverence and playful sophistication.”
The collection fuses Late Checkout’s signature hotel-inspired aesthetic with Ritz-Carlton’s iconic lion and crest. You can find the full collection here, and it includes everything from a $680 blue zippered jacket, to a $240 navy logo crewneck sweatshirt, to a $90 white logo tee, to an $85 blue logo cap.
As you can see, the branding differs between pieces, with some prominently featuring both Ritz-Carlton and Late Checkout branding, and others featuring just Ritz-Carlton branding.
For those not familiar with Late Checkout, here’s how it’s described in the context of this partnership:
Founded in 2019, Late Checkout has carved out a niche in the fashion world for its boundary-pushing designs that blend color, humor, and high-end craftsmanship. Inspired by jet-set life, endless hotel stays, and a whimsical universe, their collections celebrate the offbeat yet aspirational. This capsule collection marks a new chapter for both brands—one where legacy meets the future of luxury.
Here’s how Jamie Kerr, Global Brand Leader of Ritz-Carlton, describes the collection from the hotel brand’s perspective:
“The launch of The Ritz-Carlton’s capsule collection with Late Checkout is an exciting intersection of our brand’s dedication to service and innovation with a label that challenges classicism in fashion. The juxtaposition of our timeless elegance with Late Checkout’s modern, playful aesthetic creates a unique synergy. It allows us to offer both loyal and new guests a fresh, wearable expression of The Ritz-Carlton experience, while staying true to the craftsmanship and creativity that define our brand globally.”
And here’s how Alex Turrion, Creative Director of Late Checkout, describes the partnership from the fashion label’s perspective:
“When we were first approached by The Ritz-Carlton team, we were really amazed and thought it made perfect sense for our first collaboration ever. During our initial years, we focused on cementing our narrative and ensuring everyone understood what we wanted to communicate with our collections and campaigns. As a brand whose whole aesthetic revolves around hotels, collaborating with The Ritz-Carlton and being able to add our unique vision and narrative is a dream come true and a full-circle moment for us. Throughout the campaign video, the idea of ‘leaving better than how you came’ is shared, which is something we both embrace. We just want your day to be a bit better by wearing our clothes!”
Supporting this collection is a campaign film directed by Rogelio and produced by Little Spain, featuring actor Josh Hutcherson. It’s filmed at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, and features a diligent Ritz-Carlton employee and Mr. Wong, a frazzled father of two who seeks refuge at the hotel after his home floods.
This is kind of cool, in an unexpected way
Let me start by acknowledging that I’m anything but a fashionista. As a matter of fact, my husband jokes that I dress like a cartoon character, because my wardrobe basically consists of a lot of athleisure, with little else.
When I first read through the press release about this collaboration, I thought to myself that it felt a bit off. Let’s be honest, Ritz-Carlton is sort of a crusty brand that’s a bit past its prime. After all, Marriott is increasingly focusing on EDITION, which is intended to be Ritz-Carlton for younger people, rather than modernizing the core Ritz-Carlton brand.
So while Ritz-Carlton has amazing name recognition, it felt odd for a fun, edgy, modern brand, to partner with Ritz-Carlton. But the more I think about it, the more I kind of like it. As Ritz-Carlton’s Global Brand Leader accurately explains, “the juxtaposition of our timeless elegance with Late Checkout’s modern, playful aesthetic creates a unique synergy” (as you can see, I’d use a different term than “timeless elegance,” but the point is the same regardless).
This is indeed unique and kind of cute, especially given that the Late Checkout brand is supposed to have a hotel connection. The irony here is that the people who would wear this clothing probably also aren’t Ritz-Carlton’s typical demographic. It’s interesting how these items will be sold online, and in the boutique at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island. That… doesn’t necessarily seem like the hotel where this kind of stuff would fly off the shelves.
Bottom line
Ritz-Carlton is collaborating with Late Checkout on its first capsule collection, as the companies have partnered on nine items, ranging from shirts, to sweats, to hats. While this is an unconventional partnership, it’s kind of fun, given how different the two brands are.
What do you make of the Ritz-Carlton x Late Checkout collaboration?
Not cheap considering its hotel merchandise.
Hmm, “meticulously curated pieces that redefine everyday luxury, elevating wardrobe essentials with a dash of irreverence and playful sophistication”?
It’s a collection of Tshirts and sweatshirts/sweatpants. Don’t know if I would call this “boundary pushing” design.
I don't even see the "dash of irreverence" or "playful sophistication". It's a lame mix of over-branded garbage. But it does push one boundary...
The customer's wallet.
I'd like to see an award for "most pointless promotion or partnership" each year. This would certainly be in the running for '24...
Great!!!
Another late checkout denied.
They should partner with 12PM as that's the latest check out RC typically give you.
What's the colab for?
They don't even put those in the room and I can order any 'logo to showoff' shirt from China.
Might as well do a RC x Eric Adams.
At least the latter you still get upgrades.
Thx for the laughs. Classic backwards Marriott strategy (and perfectly ironic). Good luck to all getting late checkout at the ritz. Lolz
I'd rather the Ritz actually prioritized giving elite members a Late Checkout without having to beg.
Is it really that difficult to get a late checkout at RC? I got 3 pm checkout at RC Tokyo recently but don’t stay at RC often (since no complimentary breakfast).
Am I the only one who clicked on this thinking Ritz was introducing capsule rooms for late checkout guests?
This tells you everything you need to know about Ritz-Carlton: it's a faux luxury hotel. Imagine the kind of people who would wear this. The kind of people who say they're "staying at The Ritz."
With that said, I'm a little surprised that this wasn't launched for Edition since Edition is intended by Marriott to be a Ritz-Carlton for younger demographics.
Exactly. Ritz-Carlton hasn’t done anything interesting with hotels for years. At least this latest nonsense is on-brand for its core vulgarian customers.
Looking at you, Aman, with that crap Aman Essentials brand managed by Doronin’s girlfriend.
Looks more like a hotel uniform for a pool boy or children to wear to summer camp.
You’re Ritz Carlton you can’t colabirate with a bigger name like Ralph Lauren ? By the way checkout is at 11AM. Namaste.
