Here’s something that’s both tragic because of the death and injuries, and unfortunate due to the timing, as it came just a day after the terminal reopened.
In this post:
Kuwait Airport attacked: fatality and severe damage
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Kuwait International Airport (KWI) was the target of an Iranian missile attack, which caused absolutely massive damage to Terminal 1, the airport’s flagship terminal.
Worst of all is that there was one fatality and over 60 injuries. Beyond that, though, the terminal has been severely damaged, and the scenes from inside look awful.
While Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace following the attack, the airspace has already reopened. The airport is even operational again, though only from other terminals.
The timing of the Kuwait Airport attack is kind of wild
In late February 2026, around the start of the conflict with Iran, Kuwait Airport was attacked in a similar missile strike. That caused damage, and as a result, the terminal has been closed for over three months.
We finally saw Kuwait Airport reopen Terminal 1 on Monday, June 1, 2026, and there were all kinds of celebrations to commemorate that… only for the same terminal to be attacked again the next day.
This situation highlights the incredibly challenging realities of the war for the aviation sector. As it impacts airlines in the Gulf region, they obviously want to operate flights as much as possible, since simply shutting down your airspace and airlines for many months on end is not exactly practical.
At the same time, it’s very hard to balance that with safety, when the conflict is so unpredictable, and Iran is attacking nearby countries in order to create chaos.
Bigger picture, the issue is that we’re in a conflict with no obvious exit strategy. It doesn’t seem like President Trump actually has a plan. He obviously thought the Iranian regime would just surrender without putting up a fight, but… that’s not exactly what has happened.
Though Trump is also under the impression that he’s getting along quite well with the Ayatollah.
Meanwhile Secretary of State Marco Rubio is claiming that the war is actually over.
Bottom line
While the past several weeks have been relatively calm when it comes to Gulf airline operations, that all changed this week, when Iran escalated its attacks on nearby countries. On Tuesday, we saw Iran attack Kuwait Airport, causing major damage, and even a fatality and dozens of injuries.
The wildest part of this story is that the attack came just one day after Terminal 1 reopened, following the late February attack on the terminal, which also caused a lot of damage. One thing is for sure — it’s not just smooth sailing for Gulf carriers hereon out, and this conflict is far from over.
What do you make of this Kuwait Airport attack?
Good on Iran. But how is award availability on Kuwait Airways? Is their lounge still open? LMAO
Realistically, even with US and Israeli intelligence it would be hard to hit enough stinky baboons in their bunkers for the regime to truly change. Maybe economic starvation can help - maybe Trump realized that and just uses the "we're about to make a deal" rhetoric to keep the blockade going without too many questions asked. I hope there is some sort of a plan - hopefully, Bibs has one. Either way, never hurts to...

Either way, never hurts to do like 10,000 more bombs, then enter another ceasefire, to make the baboons less eager to randomly bomb Kuwait.
Fool. That isn't a strategic plan; it’s a temper tantrum masquerading as foreign policy (classic Trump). It relies on a childish cycle of "bomb, pause, repeat" that accomplishes nothing except endless war, civilian slaughter, and global economic chaos. You, sir, are no Sun Tzu.
It also will never succeed. Iran is independent and successful, not relying on the US matrix and grid of goyslop media and mcdonald's. It has its own oil and resources as well as top tier defence. It has named and shamed the parasites and that's why it is hated, but it will never lose.
Iranians are Aryan, and surely Whiter than jews.
Your enemy isn't Iran, your enemy is Israel and the ayatollahs are not "stinky baboons". Those are the filthy jews. Iran is an imperial state with over 5000 years of history and the regime people are very well-educated.
Sadly, the US, being the brown desert country it is, doesn't have much of an education system.
Also, I hope they get the nuclear bomb and carpet bomb Kuwait and Israel. Cope & seethe!
"when the conflict is so unpredictable, and Iran is attacking nearby countries in order to create chaos." When your house and family were bombed by your lethal enemy using your neighbors' land, would you respond differently than those of Iran's? If not, how so?
Politicians lie when their lips move. We should rely on foreign governments' statements, including those of perceived hostile governments, for transparency and dismiss the majority of stuff coming out of this...

Politicians lie when their lips move. We should rely on foreign governments' statements, including those of perceived hostile governments, for transparency and dismiss the majority of stuff coming out of this administration. Both Trump and Netanyahu do not want to end the war with Iran. There will not be peace in the region until the Ayatollahs collapse. The two oldest civilizations in Asia are Chinese and Persian while Israel's history is less than a century old and the US is celebrating 250 year history next month. Hmm the later two intent to suppress and dominate the former two??
This ceasefire sets precedent of what future cease fire will look like.
During the ceasefire, the US fired drones in the name of "self-defense" for the safety of the troops while protecting Israel to pulverize South Lebanon the same degree as it happened in Gaza. Trump just threatened to bomb Oman if it cooperates with Iran to monitor ships/ vessels movement when the Strait of Hormuz is open. Iran has attacked all other five GCC states for a just cause: They allow the US military to use their soil to attack Iran. Iran has shown a huge restraint not to fight back against US military might, despite after several provocations. Israel will not hesitate to nuke Iran because this is a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to decimate the last standing Muslim country in the region that can fight back without US backing. Turkey and Egypt will be next in its cross-fire. Does anyone know the number of Muslim countries in MidEast and North Africa have been impoverished and failed states from warfare waged by the US and Israeli war machine? Of course, their government leaders are complicit in such destruction, despair and poverty.

We have an incompetent President who has no idea of anything let alone how to start a war to keep The American people from harping on the The Epstein Files, he's a total failure of a human being...
Absolutely incompetent. Even some of the MAGA's are starting to realize it.
There are about 10,000 to 13,500 American service members stationed in Kuwait. This represents the largest concentration of U.S. troops in the Middle East and serves as a critical logistical and training hub for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) operations in the region. And then there are thousands of American civilian “contractors” who support the US bases. Iran understandably is not happy with Arab support of attacks on non-Arab but Muslim countries. But is there enough jet fuel left in the region, to support commercial aviation anyway? How many of the refineries are still operating, and how many will remain if Iran decides to attack them?
Gah. I was hoping things were going to stay pretty quiet in the area. I'm still planning to transit through AUH next month...
Ben, you got so lucky routing through ME in April. Honestly, it's off-limits for me for a while, and I used to transit DOH, DXB, etc. a lot. I'll give it at least a year (but it could be longer).
Your ‘mate’ Mr ‘rump, will sort this ‘fracas’ out for you very soon 1990 …. Xi said so …. :-)
Should highlight the major reason why this attack also happened. The Israelis are forcing to stall or scuttle this negotiations, highlighted by the fact that Trump had an intense call with Netanyahu yesterday where he berated him after Israelis started a new offensive into southern Lebanon when the US and Iranian were reaching a deal which caused the Iranians to suspend talks and announced new offensives

It is pretty clear we have a Prez who is completely clueless and thinks the world is a game of Civilization 6 and an Israeli gov who are hellbent on escalating this war to no end because it is either that or the end of Netanyahu
I mean, Trump is also claiming that he's talking to the Iranians and is close to a deal, and then the Iranians say he isn't and they aren't. Even if the Israelis were completely hands off at this point, the war would still be going because Trump is demanding things from Iran that only a ground invasion and occupation could enforce at this point.
Truth. Everything that Nethenyau does is to keep him out of jail. He and Trump are one and the same. Both corrupt.
My parents reported that the explosions last night were the loudest they had been since the start of the war.
I guess, my trip to Kuwait this Summer isn’t happening anymore. :(
Time to book that Qatar Qsuites redemption
Let me know when you find inventory from the west coast. There could be (simultaneously) a war, hantavirus outbreak and active military incursion and Qatar won't release those seat awards...
Andrew is right. So stingy!
But how long is the wait to get into lounge? And can I still use my Amex platinum to do so?
LOL! #priorities
