A few months ago, I wrote about how an airport property would switch brands, from Accor to Hyatt. There’s now an update, as we officially know when the rebranding will happen, and the hotel is also finally accepting reservations.
In this post:
Novotel Taipei Taoyuan Airport becomes Hyatt Regency
The 516-room Hyatt Regency Taipei Taoyuan Airport (TPE) will open as of January 1, 2025. For context, this simply represents a rebranding of the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan Airport (TPE), which has been operating since 2009. The contract was up for renewal after 15 years, and the owners decided they wanted to give a different brand a try.
The hotel is now accepting reservations as a Hyatt. This will be a Category 2 World of Hyatt hotel, meaning that a free night redemption will cost between 6,500 and 9,500 points. Cash rates are quite reasonable, and are typically in the range of $120-150 per night.
The property is actually owned by SkyTeam carrier China Airlines, as it’s located at the carrier’s headquarters, and is right near the airport train station. The hotel has long had the China Airlines name in its branding, and that could continue when Hyatt manages the property.
Once the rebranding happens, Accor will no longer have a presence in Taiwan. Meanwhile this will be Hyatt’s fifth property in the Taipei area. The original was the Grand Hyatt Taipei, which first opened in 1990. Then there’s also a Hyatt Place, plus two JdV by Hyatt properties (branded as EPISODE). Hyatt is also working on opening an Andaz and Park Hyatt in Taipei, but that project is a bit delayed. I’ve reviewed the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan Airport in the past.
I’m excited about this Taipei Airport hotel rebranding!
Taipei is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to quality airlines, as there are three major airlines based at Taoyuan Airport — China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines. It’s always a pleasure to fly with these airlines to and from Asia, and I find myself passing through the airport quite a bit.
For situations where you have a long layover, it’s handy to have access to a good airport hotel, especially when getting into the city can be a bit of a trek. Along those lines, it’s also useful when an airport hotel is associated with a loyalty program you have status with. As a World of Hyatt Globalist member, Hyatt is my favorite major hotel group with a points program, so I’m happy about this.
So whether it’s earning or redeeming points, or taking advantage of elite perks, I’ll definitely be more excited about staying at this property in the future.
I have to give Hyatt credit big picture for having some really great airport hotels around the globe, ranging from the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Airport (SFO), to the Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport (ZRH). This should be a nice addition as well. Here’s to hoping that the hotel eventually undergoes a bit of a refresh, as it’s overdue. I wouldn’t say the hotel is up to the typical Hyatt Regency standard.
Bottom line
The Hyatt Regency Taipei Taoyuan Airport will open as of January 1, 2025, as a rebranding of the existing Novotel. The 516-room property is owned by China Airlines, and based on my own loyalty program preferences, I’m mighty pleased to see this becoming a Hyatt, and look forward to staying there. The hotel is now accepting reservations, should you be interested in staying.
What do you make of the Novotel TPE being rebranded as a Hyatt Regency?
Very disappointing that there are no other airport hotels or hotels within 15 minutes drive that provide shuttle to and from TPE.
Wouldn’t recommend this hotel even at the low price it usually is. I’m surprised how run down and dirty a hotel in hotel could be in East Asia, from a major chain, but here we are.
I stayed there back in August for a quick overnight layover. Thought the hotel was good. The massive model airplane collection in the lobby was fun to visit.
It's not a great hotel, but Cat 2 makes it a solid redemption for those with early flights.
Crap hotel. Crap airport with crap lounges. EVA and Starlux are good airlines, but can’t make up for the lousy ground experience. Don’t fly China Airlines if you value your safety.
Starlux's new T2 lounge is really good, much better than their old small T1 lounge, have you actually been there?
Also EVA's Garden lounge for their Diamond members is very good. It's hard to access because it's for their top tier elites, but that's part of what makes it good.
@Jack Are you okay? Taoyuan airport is actually pretty good. I don’t care much for BR but I think CI is pretty good and I have heard good things about JX. So then basically it is like you are saying UA, AA and DL are terrible airlines and don’t fly them. And how there are unimpressive airports in the U.S. Like how or what is your criteria then. Did you have a bad experience in Taiwan?
Taoyuan is mediocre on a good day, crap on a bad. At least it's not crazily overrated like Changi.
Airlines itself are good.
The hotel actually had a free shuttle bus to and from TPE that I used earlier this month when did a pre-flight night there.
To clarify, the airport hotel has its own train (metro) station, which is not the same as the train (metro) stations for TPE T1 and TPE T2, which are 2 separate stations. TPE T3 will get another station when it opens.
You can refer to the metro system map here: https://www.taoyuan-airport.com/api/uploads/img/mrt_en.jpg
Good to know that. I assume the station name must be A14a Airport Hotels Station isn’t
Correct
I have an early flight out on 1/15. I was going to stay in HP New Taipei but will switch to this if they open reservations then.
The hotel was already pretty mediocre value back when it was a Novotel. Don’t look forward to how overpriced it would be once rebranded as a Hyatt Regency…
This is my thought direction and concern, too. They probably make the hotel a little nicer but charge disproportionally more. Hope I am proven wrong.
This hotel was built in 2009 and last renovated (a very light renovation) in 2018. So, it's overdue for an exhaustive renovation. Right now, the room looks like a Holiday Inn Express or Four Points by Sheraton.
