Delta Air Lines sure is on a roll lately when it comes to opening Sky Clubs. Since the beginning of 2023, the airline has opened new Sky Clubs in Boston (BOS)Kansas City (MCI)Minneapolis (MSP), and New York (JFK). As of today, a new Delta Sky Club has also opened at Newark (EWR), marking the fifth new Sky Club opening this year.

Basics of the new Delta Sky Club Newark Airport

As of August 23, 2023, a new Delta Sky Club has opened at Newark Airport (EWR). The new lounge is over 7,000 square feet, with seating for roughly 200 guests. The Sky Club is located in Terminal A near gate A8, and is open daily from 5AM until 8PM (except on Saturdays, when it closes at 6:30PM).

The Sky Club Newark features a a premium bar, a beverage station, and a buffet with a seasonally inspired selection of fresh items. On top of that, the lounge has four private all-gender restrooms and amenity zones for mobile work, socializing, or simply relaxing.

The Sky Club Newark is an open-air space that opens into the terminal, though features acoustic systems designed to absorb the outside sounds of the airport.

Here’s how Delta describes the design inspiration for the lounge (I’d paraphrase, but… well, these descriptions are always so far out there that I struggle):

“The lounge design takes inspiration from Newark’s contrasts: a rich green color palette (suitable for the ‘Garden State’) paired with the city’s historic importance as a manufacturing hub. Once known for its factories, leather tanneries and breweries, Newark’s history of industry is reflected in the Club’s warm leather textures and metallic finishes. The Club’s rigid architectural lines and rich colors merge with the soft, curving shapes representative of the landscape, reflecting a harmonious blend of the natural and the industrial.”

Below are some pictures that Delta has provided of the new lounge.

Delta moves to Newark Airport Terminal A

The opening of the new Delta Sky Club at Newark Airport coincides with Delta’s move from Terminal B to Terminal A. Delta had a Sky Club in Terminal B, though the new lounge looks much nicer, and also has the capacity to accommodate 50 additional guests.

Terminal A is Newark’s beautiful new terminal, which is part of the airport’s redevelopment. This offers by far the best passenger experience you’ll find at the airport, so even those without lounge access will have a much better experience than before. It’s pretty incredible just how much New York-area airports have improved in recent years.

Delta has a total of five gates in the terminal, and operates up to 29 peak-day departures from the airport, including to Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Cincinnati (CVG), Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis (MSP), Raleigh (RDU), and Salt Lake City (SLC).

Admittedly Newark isn’t a hub for Delta, and the airline primarily just flies to hubs and focus cities from there. However, it’s not surprising to see a Sky Club, given that the airport is a United hub, so it makes sense for competitive reasons. Furthermore, Delta does a great job with monetizing its lounges, thanks to its partnership with Amex.

Bottom line

A new Delta Sky Club has just opened at Newark Airport, located in Terminal A. The 7,000+ square foot lounge has the capacity for around 200 guests, so it’s bigger and better than the old lounge. Combined with the generally good passenger experience out of Terminal A, this is a great news for passengers.

Anyone plan on checking out the Delta Sky Club Newark soon?

Seems odd as this would be a location for Delta since they do not have a big presence at EWR

I'll be there in two weeks and can't wait to try the NY Bagel and Lox, and a Chocolate Egg Cream! Oh wait,
it's NJ. Guess I'll have to settle for the Taylor Pork Roll something.

As far aesthetics, the new lounge is rather dull and uninspired.

A bit of a tangent, but comments on the Sky Club at ORD for anyone who has been there?

Quite lovely. I’ve only had 6am departures so it’s been relatively quiet. Great food and a large space. Also love that it is in T5 so less overall traffic - at least in the mornings.

Centurion Lounge is at least a year or two out. It is going in an auxiliary building adjacent to the main terminal that is under construction.

Food is awesome and the manager Jim is great. I loved the way he interacted with my 3 year old son. Brought a smile to my face, despite the bad day I was having . This is the reason I’m loyal to delta; managers(Jim) who make take time to create a rock star experience
