For many years now, AARP members have received discounts on British Airways flights. I recently wrote about how this feature had been down for several weeks, with no timeline for it being restored. There’s now a positive update, as the discount is back.
In this post:
Basics of the British Airways AARP discount
AARP members are able to score discounts on British Airways tickets originating in the United States. Specifically:
- There’s a $200 discount for business class tickets
- There’s an $85 discount for premium economy tickets
- There’s a $65 discount for economy tickets
Given that anyone can join AARP for just $16 per year, becoming a member is a great value for anyone booking British Airways tickets.
Best of all, this AARP discount is stackable with the 10% flight discount offered by the British Airways Visa Signature® Card (review), which is one of the card’s many good perks.
This perk always has an expiration date (typically within a year), but it usually gets extended before that expiration date.

British Airways AARP discount still available
Recently I wrote about how several readers had gotten in touch to point out that the British Airways AARP discount had been pulled. British Airways’ website was still showing this discount valid through January 2024, and encouraged people to log-in to AARP’s website to start the process of booking with the discount.

However, for a few weeks, the AARP webpage where this benefit can be found had been pulled.

Fortunately that has finally changed. This webpage is now back, and you can follow the link there to be taken to the AARP website, which will then redirect you to the British Airways website and apply the discount.

I hope that this was all just a technical glitch and that this perk will continue to be renewed in future years (beyond the current January 2024 expiration). However, this was the longest period for which I ever recall this benefit being down.
Bottom line
For years, British Airways has offered a flight discount for AARP members. That means that virtually anyone booking a British Airways ticket originating in the United States is best off spending $16 on an AARP membership before booking a ticket.
While this discount had been unavailable for quite some time, it’s now back, so you can keep taking advantage of it. Hopefully this is once again renewed beyond January 2024.
Have you ever used the British Airways AARP discount?
It’s not stackable based on recent experience, and a note in the disclosures which reads, “This offer is not combinable with any other discount or deal.”
As well, “Discount does not apply to open jaw journey (only round-trip with same origin and destination permitted).” And “ The exclusive discounts are based on round-trip purchase off any published retail economy (World Traveler) and business (Club World) fares…”
I’ve found the 10% chase discount to be more useful
Looks like it's down to $65 in premium economy, too, now, same as regular economy. No mention on the new page of the $85 offer.
Is the $200 discount applicable to the fuel surcharges on a business award ticket?
My guess is only BA awards booked on their website if even that.
Yes
Does this apply to one way or just round trip travel? Thanks!
