Generous Aeroplan Miles4Migrants Offer: Acquire Points For 1.33 Cents Each

22

Air Canada Aeroplan is offering the opportunity to donate to a great cause while receiving bonus points. This is a win-win, as you can basically buy Aeroplan points for 1.33 cents each, while all of your money goes to charity…

Donate to Miles4Migrants, earn bonus Aeroplan points

In recognition of World Refugee Day, Air Canada Aeroplan has teamed up with Miles4Migrants, an organization that the program has been supporting since 2018.

In collaboration with NGO partners and airline loyalty programs, Miles4Migrants uses donated frequent flyer miles, credit card points, travel vouchers, and cash, to help the most vulnerable and forcibly displaced individuals from countries like Afghanistan and Ukraine to start new beginnings.

With this promotion, Air Canada Aeroplan is offering 7,500 bonus Aeroplan points for every $100 USD donated to Miles4Migrants through this link. There are just a few terms to be aware of:

  • Aeroplan members can earn up to 75,000 bonus Aeroplan points with this promotion, which you’d receive after donating $1,000
  • You’re free to spend the Aeroplan points that you receive however you’d like, and you have the option to also donate them back to Miles4Migrants
  • Aeroplan has committed to funding up to 18.75 million points for this campaign, which aims to raise $250,000 USD
  • The campaign will last until all the points have been awarded, or December 31, 2024, whichever comes first
  • It can take up to eight miles for the points to post to your Aeroplan account, which is probably the biggest catch
Aeroplan is offering bonus points when you donate

This is a great way to acquire points and do good

This promotion is an opportunity to acquire 75,000 Aeroplan points for $1,000, which comes out to 1.33 cents per point. That’s a good deal in and of itself, without even factoring in the charity aspect of this.

Keep in mind that Aeroplan often has promotions on buying points, and when the program does, the cost to purchase points is often in the range of 1.3-1.4 cents per point. This promotion allows you to purchase points from Aeroplan at a competitive rate. Though in reality, you’re just donating cash to a good cause, and getting Aeroplan points. Talk about a win-win!

Air Canada Aeroplan points are of course useful for redemptions on all kinds of partner airlines, including Star Alliance airlines, as well as others.

This is a great opportunity to earn rewards

Bottom line

If you want to acquire Aeroplan points and donate to a great cause at the same time, this new offer is for you. You can earn 7,500 bonus Aeroplan points for every $100 USD donated to Miles4Migrants, and you can earn up to 75,000 bonus Aeroplan points this way.

This is a great cause even with no promotion on donations. So essentially getting Aeroplan points for 1.33 cents each with this offer is pretty awesome.

Do you plan on donating to Miles4Migrants with this offer?

Why can't Air Canada just donate the $250K directly?

  2. ntdavis1 New Member

Just donated $500 USD and the campaign is already at $181,732 of $250,000 goal! Way to go fellow humans!

Anyone know if the credit card name must match the aeroplan number? Was gonna buy points for my wife too but wasn't sure if the credit card must match the aeroplan number (I'm just worried it will exceed the limit per person, even though its my wife's AC number)

    1. Miles4Migrants Guest

Hey Alex - No, the credit card does not need to match the Aeroplan account number. As long as the Name and Aeroplan account numbers match, you should be able to donate to Miles4Migrants on your wife's behalf and she can also receive up to the maximum of 75k points from Air Canada.

Thanks Ben. Just donated. I'll be curious to see how long it takes for the miles to deposit, but definitely seems like a good cause.

"It can take up to eight miles for the points to post to your Aeroplan account, which is probably the biggest catch"

How do we convert miles into minutes? Is it at walking pace or sprinting pace? :-)

Q: Are the Aeroplan points I earn considered tax-deductible?

A: Since Aeroplan points are a reward program benefit, they are not considered tax-deductible.

It is right in the FAQs

What a great promotion! Helping vulnerable people through travel and getting Aeroplan miles and a tax deduction and can use toward spend requirements on a card. Win-win-win-win! Donated $1000

I would rather buy miles to the regular price than support that “forcibly displaced individual” campaign, or as most people would call them, illegal migrants.

In what way is this supporting "illegal migrants"? The organization helps people who have been granted visas or asylum get plane tickets to their host countries.

While it is Air Canada offering the promotion, there is a mutual sentiment expressed: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Nice donation tax write off scam for AC.

In Canada if you donate via 3rd party, they get the massive tax credit.

    1. Lee Guest

But, in any other circumstance, a donation would only be deductible to the extent the donation exceeded the value received. In this case, why would an individual expect a deduction/credit?

    2. DiogenesTheCynic Member

At least in the U.S. (since Miles4Migrants is registered as a 501(c)(3) here, I assume this is in fact a tax deductible donation) that's right, but you reduce the donation by the value they report you getting -- which I suspect is less than 1.3/1.4 cents a mile (though I could be wrong and maybe they're overvalued!). I agree it's a significant consideration for how good a deal this is -- not sure how we know how Aeroplan would value the miles.

Too bad it says "Please allow up to eight weeks for the points to be posted to your account."

Or 8 "miles", according to Ben. I thought he was an early riser!
