Early last year I reviewed the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Hong Kong. Keep in mind that Hong Kong is one of Singapore Airlines’ biggest outstations, between their frequent flights to Hong Kong, and their service to San Francisco.

This lounge left me rather disappointed:
- It’s a massive lounge, but doesn’t have any shower facilities
- There was no dedicated first class section, which seemed a bit odd given just how big the lounge was
- The food selection was fine for a business class lounge, I suppose, though wasn’t what you’d expect as a first class passenger
- The lounge felt like a cave, since it had no windows
The SilverKris Lounge Hong Kong has been undergoing a renovation the past several months — it closed in June, and reopened this past Friday, November 7, 2014. The lounge was actually supposed to be reopen in early September, but I guess the renovation took two months longer than expected.

While I haven’t checked it out yet, Business Traveler has a first look at the new SilverKris Lounge Hong Kong, which looks like a huge improvement:
- The lounge now has several shower suites, which are especially useful for passengers connecting between San Francisco and Singapore (during my layover last year I basically sprinted to the Priority Pass Lounge for a shower, which was far away)
- The lounge now has a dedicated first class section, which includes an la carte menu with items such as satay, laksa, etc.

Unfortunately since the lounge is in the same exact place it was before, it’s still quite dark, which is sad given how much natural light the airport otherwise has.

Bottom line
This does seem like the nicest Star Alliance Lounge in Hong Kong, not that there’s much competition for that title. Not surprisingly oneworld still has the edge, between The Wing First Class Lounge, The Bridge Business Class Lounge, and the new Qantas Lounge, which I haven’t yet had the chance to check out, though have heard amazing things about.
Does anyone plan on checking out the SilverKris Lounge in Hong Kong soon?
(Tip of the hat to Jim)
@Justin: That may be the most pathetic post I have ever seen from anyone on any blog or message board.
@Lucky: After learning about the SilverKris Lounge from you in this post, I will be giving it a whirl with the kids and wife over x-mas and new year's.
@ Lucky - My beef now: the fact that my dad would take the airport's Japanese style deep fried pork cutlet rice over this lounge, and he doesn't really understand that I'm blogging... :P
THAI has access to the lounge right?
If yes then here I come.
@ Alvin -- Yes, absolutely!
The Apple Stores and Stanley Kubrick films had a baby, it is the Qantas Lounge. Simply amazeballs
You were waiting by the door of a lounge begging random strangers to guest you into that lounge? I guess you'd have to check in your dignity at the door had they let you in...
The UA lounge a pretty nice at HKG and there is a first class area
I was hugely disappointed in the old SQ lounge when I used it. Dingy and poor selection. It doesn't sound like it got much better.
I already visited the new lounge and had access to the First Class section and was very disappointed: The new Sydney Lounge is absolutely fantastic (lounge, food, wine, service) while this lounge in HKG is a pretty sad one: very small space, easily overcrowded and service (or the absence of) made me wonder whether this is really what SQ wanted.
@ acs - I had the same question. Flying Eva out of HKG today. I'm going to opt for the VS clubhouse since it's not the easiest lounge to get access to in the first place and I want to check it out.
Justin did someone guest you ?
Hey Lucky,
Have you been to the Virgin Clubhouse in HKG? I'm flying EVA out of HKG in a few weeks, trying to decide whether I should go to the new SQ lounge or not.
@ acs -- I haven't, though if you have access I'd say that's probably one of the better options.
I was STARVING in HKG in January before the LH departure to MUC (~midnight). The only *A lounge options either had inedible, bad food (UA, TG) or no food (SQ) at that hour. Also, somehow every single restaurant in the terminal was closed by 1030pm. Literally was standing by the CX lounges asking to be guested in because I was so hungry....
"and reopened this past Friday, November 7, 2015." Should maybe say 2014? ;)
@ Oliver -- Whoopsies, can't catch a bread on years. Fixed. :D
