Use InterContinental Ambassador Weekend Night Certificates At Kimptons

The weekend night certificate issued as part of InterContinental Ambassador status just became more useful.

What is InterContinental Ambassador?

IHG has a rather complicated rewards program structure. In addition to the IHG Rewards Club program that covers all of IHG’s brands, InterContinental has its own guest recognition program, called Ambassador.

An Ambassador membership costs $200 annually, and comes with the following perks every time you stay at an InterContinental:

  • A guaranteed one category upgrade
  • A $20 credit to use towards the hotel’s restaurant and bar
  • 4PM late check-out
  • Complimentary internet and mineral water
  • Complimentary weekend night reward
  • IHG Rewards Club Platinum Elite status

Receive a room upgrade as an InterContinental Ambassador member

Weekend night reward now valid at Kimptons

Arguably one of the most valuable perks of InterContinental Ambassador status is a complimentary weekend night reward, since it can more than cover the cost of your membership in one stay. The way this works:

  • Pay for one weekend night and receive the second night of your stay free
  • You must book the Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night Rate, which is typically equal to the best flexible rate
  • While it’s not valid for suite bookings, you can book other premium rooms and get the second night free

Well, as noted by LoyaltyLobby, the InterContinental weekend night reward is now valid at Kimpton properties globally:

  • This is initially only being allowed for a trial period, through December 31, 2021
  • It can be used at Kimptons for any days of the week, and not just weekends (for InterContinentals, the same weekday restrictions still apply)

Bottom line

InterContinental Ambassador weekend night certificates can now be redeemed at Kimptons. Unlike at InterContinentals, they can be redeemed for stays any day of the week, at least during this trial program, which goes through the end of 2021.

This adds a lot more flexibility to these certificates, and for many people this may be a reason to join the Ambassador program, since redeeming this certificate could get you more than the $200 registration fee.

Anyone plan on using an InterContinental Ambassador certificate at a Kimpton?

Excellent! The extensions are good. I just moved my next trip to Asia forward for the 3rd time, now into November and planned to use the Intercontinental cert in Thailand.

Can you tell me which hotels are featured in the pictures on this article? I'm intrigued by the image in the first. Is it looking into a bathroom or window?

@Bill AMB expiry dates and the weekend cert expiry dates have been extended by 6 months so chek your account for the new expiry date.

Normal IHG status has been extended to end of Devember 2021

Nice. I’ve been Ambassador for several years after joining for $100 at Kansas City InterContinental which was great for work. I always got the room I wanted and Club access at the Govt rate

I was supposed to use this year’s weekend cert this coming Friday and Saturday at the London Park Lane, where once my upgrade was to the bilevel London Suite.

Initially I would renew for 15,000 points the last couple years jacked up to 40,000. But I have plenty of points from just the weekend spend to renew next year.

I haven’t checked any virus extensions but adding Kimpton can’t hurt.

I’ve enjoyed weekend cert nights at Mark Hopkins in SF with upgrade to terrace suite, Century City in LA with huge terrace, a year ago today at New LA Downtown for BDay :-) corner suite. TimeSquare where we reserved the Jr. Suite with windows on 3 sides which didn’t have an upgrade so got Room Service Breakfast comp’d.
    ANA & The Strings. Tokyo
Sydney Harbor with super Club InterContinental
2 Staycations at the Willard John Quincy Adams Suite and River Suite at the New Wharf here in DC

Works for me at least once a year!

@ Sel - they do recognise your underlying IHG status which will be a minimum of Platinum as that comes with AMB.

Unlikely they will recognise AMB as that has different benefits such as 10k points if they can't upgrade you for example.

Any chance Kimpton will start to honor other ambassador benefits?

This is amazing news, so glad IHG made them more flexible
