Yesterday I wrote about some fantastic SkyTeam business class fares that are available for travel from Germany to the US. Assuming you can originate in Germany, you can snag a heck of a deal for a ticket on Air France, Alitalia, Delta, or KLM. For anyone who was considering one of those fares, they’re actually more readily available now than yesterday. Yesterday the fare had major limits on the dates you could travel, while now they’re even available over peak summer dates, which is awesome.
It looks like Star Alliance is largely matching this sale. No, the fares aren’t identical in all markets, though Star Alliance airlines have exceptional business class fares for travel between Germany and North America. These fares are valid for many cities in Germany to many cities in North America.
The fares are valid for outbound travel through April 5, 2018, or for return travel between November 1 and December 21, 2018.
FlyerTalk member Rosenamit has a useful rundown of the available fares. Just to give a few examples:
- Dusseldorf to Los Angeles for ~$1,650 roundtrip
- Frankfurt to Boston, Chicago, Miami, Montreal, New York, Toronto, or Washington for ~$1,650 roundtrip
You can use ITA Matrix and Google Flights to find these fares. Then if you want to potentially save even more on the cost of a ticket you can book through Momondo, as they often have lower fares (I’m seeing fares that are about $100 cheaper roundtrip in some cases). However, do be aware that if you need to make changes or in the event of irregular operations this could complicate things, since they link to some obscure OTAs.
If you do book one of these tickets and have access to US credit cards, make sure you maximize the points you earn. The Platinum Card® from American Express offers 5x points on airfare purchased directly with airlines (on up to $500,000 of flight purchases per calendar year, and then 1x), which is a great option if you’re booking directly with the airline. Meanwhile the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card offers triple points on airfare purchases, and also offers fantastic travel coverage in the event of irregular operations.
These fares won’t last, so if you’re interested I’d recommend booking ASAP!
Seems to be already gone
Do these count toward PQD or PQM on UA?
Maybe I'm a little stupid but I tried a trip from DUS to MIA on 07/16/18 til 08/07/18 plus-minus 2 days. no chance......
Can anybody help?
@ Marcus -- Unfortunately those dates aren't valid: "The fares are valid for outbound travel through April 5, 2018, or for outbound travel between November 1 and December 21, 2018."
Well I used the us format. I mean 16 July 2018 until 07 August 2018.
I booked FRA - JFK roundtrip business class on Lufthansa from 11/26 to 11/30 for USD 1672. Awesome!
For what it's worth, on the routing that I could potentially do as I have a conference in Berlin in early April and am based in SF, they're all only showing up at this price for 2-3 day RT tickets for both skyteam and star alliance on google flights. Same is true for November/December.
Double checked the example post too and that price is only valid for a 2 day RT, no longer five days.
