In what appears to have been a gas explosion, the Hyatt Regency London The Churchill has suffered some structural damage, and will be closed for at least the next few days.
Apparently all 500 guests were safely evacuated, with a handful of staff being treated for minor injuries.
The hotel is currently closed while the full extent of the damage is being determined.
I know many people took advantage of the recent discounted business class fares to book international travel for Thanksgiving weekend, so thought I’d pass this along.

Wow, there was an explosion , and Mr Kevin thinks only about his money. Jesus man...amazing....
Amazed how some people still find the ability to complain during what is a crisis for the hotel. Think some perspective is required.
Wow--glad everyone is okay. I used my 2 free nights to stay there in August. It was the start of my Diamond Challenge, and they could not have treated me any better. Very nice hotel and staff. I hope to return one day soon.
We just arrived today. I had gotten an email yesterday a couple of hours before we left to the airport, with instructions to go to the radisson blu across the street.

We arrived and a couple Hyatt were camped out in the lobby and confirmed our reservation. She talked into her walkie talkie and stated that we had been set up at the Hilton Park Lane nearby. I was too tired to argue, but they did say that they were covering the cost.
We were staying on points, so I was concerned about getting full value, or if they were just going to refund my points and leave me on my own. But they covered the cab to the Hilton, and we still got some platinum amenities (high room, great view, etc.)
The Hilton park lane is a really nice place ($486/night when I checked today), but I thought that Hyatt handled things really well. I was annoyed that I couldn't just confirm the new hotel before hand so we didn't have to trek to the radisson and leave again, but I also understand that during a crisis you deal with the problems right in front of you first.
The Hilton confirmed that everything was covered, and overall I'm really pleased how it all ended.
We were due to arrive this Wednesday at the Churchill. Hyatt just called wanting to reconfirm our email addresses. Said they were awaiting confirmation from the Andaz to accommodate us snd would email as soon as they received. Prayers go out to all injured. Cannot imagine the chaos right now. Said they were honoring reservations for Dec. 1 and later at the Churchill.
