Rental car company Six has over 2,200 locations in over 100 countries. While it might not be the most well known agency in the United States, the agency is known for having more premium cars than other brands, so it’s a good company to rent from if you’re looking to get a premium car (especially in places like Europe).
Anyway, while this isn’t breaking news or the most exciting offer on earth, it’s worth keeping in mind that Sixt has a readily available status match promotion, as flagged by YHBU.
In this post:
Status match to Sixt Gold & Platinum status
Sixt partners with dozens of major airline and hotel loyalty programs. As part of these partnerships, elite members in those programs can typically take advantage of status match offers with Sixt.
If you visit the Sixt partners webpage, you’ll see all of Sixt’s airline and hotel partners. Just click on each individual partner, and you’ll see the status match opportunity that’s available.
For example, if you visit the American AAdvantage webpage, you’ll see that AAdvantage Gold status matches to Sixt Gold status, while AAdvantage Platinum status and above matches to Sixt Platinum status.
To get the status upgrade, you’ll just have to follow the link for the relevant status that you’re looking to match. Then just follow the prompt and/or register for Sixt’s rewards program, and your status should immediately be upgraded.
What are the benefits of Sixt Gold & Platinum status?
For context on Sixt status, the rental car company has three tiers, including Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Only Gold and Platinum are available with a status match, while Diamond is invitation only.
Sixt Gold status ordinarily requires three rentals annually for residents of the United States. It offers the following perks:
- A free additional driver for all rentals in the United States
- Up to a 10% discount on Sixt rentals, just by booking while logged into your account
Sixt Platinum status ordinarily requires 10 rentals annually for residents of select countries (including the United States), and 20 rentals annually for others. It offers the following perks:
- An exclusive rental counter plus parking area from which you can get your car
- A free car upgrade subject to availability
- A free additional driver for all rentals in the United States
- Up to a 15% discount on Sixt rentals, just by booking while logged into your account
- The ability to earn bonus points with Sixt partners
As you can see, the benefits aren’t much to get excited about, but are better than nothing.
Bottom line
Sixt offers a readily available status match opportunity, whereby you can match airline and hotel elite status with a vast majority of programs to either Sixt Platinum or Gold status. If you have an upcoming Sixt rental, I’d absolutely recommend taking advantage of this, as it’s always better to have status than not.
Have you taken advantage of Sixt’s generous status match program?
Used this in 2021 to status match with my AF/KL Platinum and have consistently used them as preferred car rental company across EU (Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, etc...), Thailand and Australia.
By far have the best fleet available rental car wise (imo) and until now have only had good experiences.
Highlight was getting an M4 competition for 1 week when booking a VW passat as upgrade in Germany.

the upgrades are hit and miss thought apart from the occasional gems.
Sixt has the best damn rental car fleet with luxury German cars rather than the "Premium" cars made by US automakers. Wish they were in more US cities.
Eg. Recently rented a BMW 5 Series with a lot of premium options and drove R/T from LAS to the Grand Canyon in 1 day at $75/day. Hell of a deal.

I have always rented from Sixt in Europe.... Wow, BMW's, Mercedes' ..... and any of the ones I drove were low mileage cars. (Recent Hertz President Circle rental cars had over 30K miles including 30K miles of wear and tear and dirt in the interiors).
Good luck with Sixt, great if nothing happens, but if you run into trouble, they do not respond. They also tack on charges randomly and do not respond if you try to question what the charges are.
Reports are that once you status match with them, the match never really seems to expire. We had a couple of good experiences with Sixt in 2023. For one, they’ll actually give you the car class you want, unlike Hertz, which seems to use Five Star and President’s Circle as an excuse to make you pick from five random vehicles, none of which fit your needs for a trip particularly well.
They match with TK as well (Elite -> Platinum), which is convenient given that TK elite is relatively easy to get. The discount is decent, but I've never been offered an upgrade even when one is available. Getting the miles credited correctly to a partner program is also a pain.
I had a good experience with Sixt at LAX. Booked a full-size, but received a BMW 330 after mentioning my Platinum status at check-in. Got my status via status match from National Exec which I got from having CSR.
Document your car in as much detail as possible please. My experiences with Sixt is that they will find damage after you return the car and charge heavily. It took me over 6 months of communicatoin with them and only after just filing a complaint via my Amex they took the chargs away.
. Be aware!
Just a warning for anyone considering Sixt - they are prone to blaming you for damage you did not cause. Meticulously document the vehicle's condition before you set off, use a CC with rental insurance, and even then good luck...
I believe Diamond is available for status match with Flying blue Platinum Ultimate Status.
