The American AAdvantage program has launched some targeted offers incentivizing travel in premium cabins. This seems to be pretty widely targeted, so you’ll want to check if you’re eligible…
In this post:
Bonus AAdvantage miles for premium flights
American AAdvantage is offering targeted promotions, whereby you can earn bonus miles for premium cabin travel. To find this offer, log into your AAdvantage account through aa.com or the American Airlines app, go to your main account page, and click on the “Promotions” tab. If eligible, you’ll see this listed there.
Let me emphasize that this is targeted, though it at least seems to be widely targeted, as all the accounts that I manage show the offer. My account shows an offer to earn 5,000 bonus miles after flying two premium cabin flights, while other accounts I manage show a bonus offer of 15,000 bonus miles after flying six premium cabin flights. There are likely other offers out there as well.
As you’d expect, there are some terms to be aware of:
- You must register by November 11, 2024, and prior to booking your eligible flights
- You must then fly by December 19, 2024; there are blackout dates of of November 22, November 30, December 1, and December 2
- Eligible flights include those in first class, business class, and premium economy
- Eligible flights have to be operated and marketed by American, and not by partner airlines
- Only revenue tickets count toward this, and not award flights
- Bonus miles will post within 14 days of an eligible flight
- This promotion only offers bonus AAdvantage miles, and they wouldn’t count toward your Loyalty Points total
Personally I value AAdvantage miles at 1.5 cents each. In the right increments, this promotion potentially offers 2,500 bonus AAdvantage miles per eligible segment, which I value at a return of $37.50 per segment. That’s not half bad.
It’s nice to see an offer incentivizing travel!
Suffice it to say that airline frequent flyer programs have evolved over the years. Back in the day, these programs were intended to fill airplane seats, and were a cost center. However, we’ve seen these evolve, as they’ve gone from being frequent flyer programs, to being frequent buyer programs.
With that in mind, the AAdvantage program has been all about incentivizing credit card spending, rather than actually incentivizing flying with the airline. So it’s kind of refreshing to see an offer for bonus rewards in conjunction with certain flying activity. We saw a similar offer several months back, but prior to that, I don’t remember the last time that we saw something like this from the program.
Bottom line
American AAdvantage has rolled out some targeted promotions, offering bonus miles for completing a certain number of premium cabin flights. Essentially you can earn 2,500 bonus miles per eligible premium cabin segment, in certain increments. Definitely check to see if you’re eligible, as this could represent a good deal.
Were you eligible for one of these targeted offers? If so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?
I received the promotion as well. Incentive is great however I wish they gave some extra time to complete the promotion.
I have a 4 / 10,000 offer, but it gives me a choice between LP and miles. I guess that's different.
Are flights the same as segments here?
My promo is 4 flights for 10k, but I can choose between miles and LP. I'm PP and nowhere close to requalifying, if that matters.
I’m EXP and was targeted for 10,000 miles for 2 flights in first, business or premium economy. I usually don’t get lucky, but do have a round trip scheduled beginning December 13 returning December 19, and I’m in premium economy hoping to get the now very elusive first class upgrade based on my status. But at least I should get the miles.
Any idea if American Eagle flights would qualify? It seems like they should, but not totally clear from the T&Cs.
Gotta wonder if AA is seeing more and more crediting of flights to BA Executive Club instead of Aadvantage. My offer was for 10,000 bonus miles for four premium flights. That's not enough for me to credit the trips to AA. I still fly AA, but I now credit everything to BA as the ground benefits far outweigh anything AA can offer me.
Yep, got an offer of 10,000 for 2 flights in a premium cabin (including premium economy). I do have 3 flights within that period but no way in hell am I paying for 1st in an A319! The other flight is an A321T but that's lot of cash to cough up.
many years ago, AA used to give a lot of miles for transathlantic business flights. I was flying for work a couple of times a year and I always took advantage of it but this deal seems not so great, or at least one can get more miles by depositing the same premium flight to AS without this promo...
I got 20k bonus after 8 flights. That's a lot for such a short window.
