The Amex Offers program often has promotions that can save you money on hotel stays, especially with co-brand credit card partners Hilton and Marriott. For those who prefer different kinds of accommodations, there’s a great new Amex Offers deal for Airbnb.
In this post:
Spend $250+ with Airbnb, get 5K Amex points
There’s a new targeted Amex Offers deals for Airbnb stays. With this, you can receive 5,000 bonus Amex Membership Rewards points when you spend $250+ with Airbnb. There are some terms to be aware of, as you’d expect:
- The promotion is valid for purchases through December 30, 2021
- You must make a $250+ purchase (in USD) in a single transaction online at airbnb.com or through the Airbnb app
- Registration is required; while this is a targeted offer, it at least seems to be widely targeted, as I see this on several cards

Since it’s possible you’ll see this offer on multiple cards, ideally you’ll want to register a card that also offers bonus points on vacation rentals. As far as I know, the only Amex card to offer bonus points in this category is the Amex Green, as the card offers 3x Membership Rewards points on travel purchases.
What I find interesting about this deal
I love the fact that Amex is offering bonus Membership Rewards points rather than cash savings here. Back in the day this was commonplace, but it seems like it has been getting rarer and rarer in the past couple of years to see offers for bonus points.
For those of us who like to maximize travel, it’s a much better deal to earn Amex points rather than cash back. That’s because Amex typically values Membership Rewards points at one cent each for these purposes, while I personally value them at 1.7 cents each. In other words, I’d choose 5,000 Amex points over $50 any day of the week.
I don’t remember the last time we saw an Amex Offers deal for Airbnb, let alone for bonus points. I wonder if this is almost a small scale competitive response to the Capital One Venture X, which is offering a vacation rental credit as part of the welcome bonus.
Bottom line
There’s a new Amex Offers deal that can earn you 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points if you spend $250+ with Airbnb. This is an excellent deal, so if you have any upcoming Airbnb stays, definitely see if you’re targeted, and then take advantage of this.
Was your Amex account targeted for this Airbnb deal, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?
Is there a reason I am not seeing this benefit on my AmEx Platinum?
I agree I don’t see it in my AMEX platinum or Marriott bonvoy?

Not targeted widely enough apparently. Not offered on my blue, gold, or platinum card offers.
Surprising. 5x is a good value compared to other travel credit cards. Usually when Amex has the bonus points on the promotions they don't equal enough compared to other cards. Only 2x for some specific restaurant for example.
Ha! Was preparing to book an AirBnB this morning. Thanks for letting us know -- I just made 5K extra points. ¡Qué fortuna!
Can I buy a $250 gift card and still get the points?
Can stack this with airline partners such as Delta too.
I agree with you in preferring to receive points rather than cash back, but I've come to terms with the fact that that isn't what I'll always get. I've started to put any cash benefits a card offers that aren't part of the initial offering (so not counting Amex travel credits) into a savings account to use to buy miles. I know it's not entirely logical but it works for me. The credit card environment...

I know it's not entirely logical but it works for me. The credit card environment here is completely different to the US, earning miles is much more difficult. The best I can get from credit cards for domestic transactions here is about 1 mile per AUD, but I have a debit card that gives me 2% cash back on some transactions.
