He’s right. Too much anger around. Sadly we have to remind people to be nice. And unfortunately, some people don’t care
Kudos to the captain for that announcement. However, it is a sad that reminders are needed to treat each other nicely.
I had a similar experience with a United Captain grabbing the PA in the gate area when our flight was on rolling delays. He explained why it was the plane was late. He talked about how he was sorry, had people waiting for him on the other end, was going to try and make up the time. He asked everyone to grab food (as no time to cater on the plane turn) and use the restroom beforehand (to speed boarding and departure) and the entire talk was so sincere that people applauded. Proof that the human part goes a long way.
I had a similar experience as well with a UA captain leaving ORD during a horrendous snow storm. The vast majority of flights were cancelled and nerves were frayed and I think there were close to 100 ppl on standby for the flight. He was awesome and this stuff goes such a long way. I can think of so many times with delays where thorough and honest information would have completely turned around the very negative emotions passengers were feeling.
@august the Labrador by the gate appears to be a guide dog if the owner is visually impaired. The smaller dog is wearing a regular harness which is affixed to the leash.

Both dogs are pets. People just scamming the system.
Sure, they were labeled as ESA's... but they are pets.
Why are the dogs not wearing masks? The dogs and their owners should be placed on the DNF list.
If you want to speculate that they were pets that’s fine. But don’t lie and say you were there to try and validate your guess.
The dear little black one looks like a French Bulldog, ie the same breed a United FA insisted go in the overhead bin, resulting in its death..a year or 2 ago. They are brachycephalic and should never go in the cargo hold; they should be welcomed in the passenger cabin ( ...and not in the bin), ESA status or not.
One is a pet. Maybe an ESA, maybe an in-cabin pet. Either way, they’re allowed on board whether you like it or not until airlines say otherwise.
The passenger stood at the gate door is there for a reason. Preboarding as she will have a disability. Look at the frame the Labrador has. Those are there for a reason. Have an issue with disabled people with a service animal? Call the DOJ and ask to speak to someone in the civil rights division and ask them about the ADA.
I'd prefer the Sunday sermon be saved for church. Those who aren't capable of being kind and polite will not be swayed by this or any other cabin announcement. I wish they would edit PA announcements to be as minimal as possible.
