+1 on Flighty. Really great tool. I've even used it to show gate agents where their plane is while waiting for it to arrive.
Another upvote for Flighty. It’s not quite as timely for foreign airlines but still pretty good. Funny enough, it’ll even send push notifications for delays even before the airline posts it (looking at you, AA).
The Lufthansa App also shows previous (Lufthansa Group) flights under flight status.

I also find FlightStats.com helpful. Especially the "Flight Notes" page under the "View Flight Details" page. It offers a raw log of all the changes to the flight including changes in equipment, status and Time Adjustment such as departure/arrival estimates for both gate and runway. However, it doesn't provide any explanation such as weather or mechanical issues.
Another vote for Flighty here, especially as a nearly-captive AA flier. I will say Flighty seems a little bit glitchier since the recent major update, but it’s still a well-above-average tool for flight tracking.
Flighty is iPhone only. The Alaska Airlines app uses FlightAware, which my favorite.
It’s true that Flighty is only available on iOS, but if you happen to have a device in that ecosystem, it’s hands down the best app for tracking your upcoming, active, and past flights.
I don’t regret the annual subscription fee at all for the paid version.
Just use Flighty. One of the best designed apps, period.
Don’t get me wrong, FR24 is still the best avgeek app overall, but Flighty is perfect for this. And it’s fun!
Not really related, but I was on that BEA-liveried A319 coming back from Düsseldorf a couple of weekends ago. I didn't realise it had been brought back out of storage so thought I'd been sent to the wrong plane for a second (you just see a black stripe and a flash of red from the jetbridge)!
All very sound advice. Hubs are indeed a problem and when we were stuck at TFN (one of Binter's two hubs), we couldn't leave the airport in cae of an equipment change.
I think Flighty pretty good for many airlines around the world. And I agree, I have received delay or cancellation notices a *full day* before the airline announces it (Finnair and Virgin Australia).
