No one else goes to Munich paying 800EUR/night for a hotel room.
Rosewood have some of the most beautiful properties in the world and far exceed Four Seasons and other high-end luxury brands on comfort and design. Service though at Rosewood properties is often hit and miss, and can be downright cold, rude, and indifferent, as I most recently experienced at the Rosewood London.
That's unfortunate. A property I stay at quite often is Rosewood São Paulo. Service is so personal, warm, welcoming, proactive, comprehensive, detailed. EVERY DETAIL of that place is thought through and deliberate and just exudes quality, and feels like a celebration of Brazilian culture (the lobby entrance is like a bookstore lounge).
Living in Dallas, I have such a warm spot for how Rosewood started - the Hunt family and it's still such a treat to visit the historic Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. It's still in my opinion one of the finest hotels that Dallas has to offer. I know the company has since changed but so glad to see Rosewood expanding.
I've watched this project inch along for what feels like 5-6 years now. But I am not a travel blogger and choose not to spend 700€ a night for the cheapest room. Germans are cheap, which is why you don't have all the 'aspirational' points hotels you do in other markets. There just aren't many high end properties at all. Two Ritz Carltons in the the entire country? And often with rates under 400€ a night (sometimes around 200)?!
I agree with Omri largely. The hotel is for wealthy foreigners who don't care about value or what they pay. For me, there's a nice Hilton in town.
If you've got money to burn, why not? But there are plenty decent hotels that are a fraction of the cost.

That's a pretty fair assessment for Germany. There really are just a few standout properties, and a few wellness resorts, but that's it across the board. Even Berlin doesn't have many to choose from.
Interesting. Pre-Covid I stayed and had wonderful service. Only downside was the bland business district location.
After what happened in WWII, the remains of old money elite knew they had to keep a low profile to survive. Add to that a scrupulous, egalitarian culture, and there’s really not much domestic demand for self-consciously “luxurious” experiences.
I hope it stays that way. There’s an inverse correlation between luxury (upper class power) and living standards for the median person
Agreed this would likely become the nicest hotel in Munich overnight. Looks beautiful.
Stayed at DO & CO Munich a couple of years ago and its an amazing boutique hotel a few steps away from Marienplatz with excellent views of the Frauenkirche. Not quite as ritzy (or pricy) as Rosewood but with a luxurious yet modern feel.
I stayed at the Do and Co this year and thought it was great. Wonderful location, nice rooms and the restaurant was pretty good too. Lower price point too (under $500/night) But I am a sucker for a well-located boutique hotel (eg Serras Hotel Barcelona stayed last year and just loved)
That looks gorgeous. I’ve stayed at two Rosewoods (Vancouver and Bangkok) and found both of them excellent so I’m pleased to see more of them opening.
Overpriced, I am afraid- like most 5* hotels in Munich. DO&CO is an exception which proves the rule.
