The Hatch Act is a law. This is illegal. Federal officials cannot conduct policy in their official position using government property or channels. You cannot be for law and order while choosing which congressionally passed laws you want to follow. Republicans have control of every federal branch and can pass the budget on their own using a filibuster change (which they’ve already used on other things). They can open the government any time they want. They don’t want to seat the 218th vote to release the Epstein files.
If you’re ok with this video, you do not stand for law and order, regardless of your politics.
Unfortunately they rather not fix the problem because it works to their advantage. Think of the border, they rather not fix it because if they do, they have nothing to run on.
I was watching CUOMO and it's sad that the military had to wait on line at a food pantry because of this shutdown. Think about that, a food pantry.

If the video simply apologized for any delay and asked for the traveler's patients during this time, that is fine.
As for democrat or republican blame. If either party had control of all three (Senate, House, and Presidency), the party that did not have any control would do what ever they could to promote what they thought is important.
This is why I prefer to have one party always in control of one of the three, it gives all citizens a voice.

No, we don’t need to debate the politics of the government shutdown. Republicans, who are in the majority of both houses, could by a simple majority vote do away with the need for the current supermajority requirement to end debate.
That is all that would be needed. Senate Republicans vote 51-49 or 50-50 with Vice President Vance breaking the tie. Then they could hold an immediate vote to end debate, then another immediate vote to reopen the government.
Alternately, Senate Republicans could schedule 30 hours of debate mandated by the current supermajority rules. Once those 30 hours of debate have expired, then the Senate Republicans could hold an immediate vote with only a simple majority (or the Vice President to break a tie) because the need for debate would have been satisfied.
So, no, let us not debate this. Let us acknowledge that the majority party can very very easily pass this legislation. They will not, because they are already being murdered in polling and are wholly desperate to drag at least a handful of Democrats down with them.

Good question. They don’t have these that I can think of at any of the airports I frequent - MCI (which isn’t TSA anyway), LAX T4/5, Can’t recall seeing them at DFW, BOS, or SEA either. Or maybe I just travel so much I don’t pay any attention.

Everything to do with providing a valid ID which a Permanent Resident Card sufficed (back before Real ID during the Biden era) which incidentally a green card holder is required to have with them AT ALL TIMES. Wasn’t the non-US citizens without passports line just for people who were going through the citizenship or green card process and had a US travel document that allowed them to travel prior to them getting an actual passport?
Ah that explains it. If it's for TSA, there's an even longer list of non-passport IDs that even non-citizens and non-LPRs can use to travel domestically. In fact, it just so happens that I'm currently flying using such a document (an Employment Authorization Doc) because my green card is on the way and that is sufficient evidence of my legal status without needing to carry a passport. It even counts as a REAL ID nowadays.

For traveling domestically to go through TSA, someone who's legal can still use a document listed on the CBP website that's not a passport. They may not be citizens but doesn't mean they are undocumented. In fact you just answered your own question. Since a green card holder has to have the card with them at all times, if they don't have their passport with them won't they have to go through this exact line to fly and use their green card as ID?

The practice is now banned. It was unique to his administration and not business as usual, had nothing to do with green cards, etc.

Issue for Military families is that unless you are an officer, the enlisted, don't make much. Granted knowing I didn't earn much money, I wouldn't marry or have child(ren) but thats just me.
Just because government employees may not get a check does not mean millions of other people don’t have money to travel. If some employees are working without pay, they know they will get back pay in the end. I just hope those that don’t at least work part time do not get back pay. I know it’s not thier fault. They should still know how it works, because this is not the first time it’s happened and I’m not sure it won’t be the last time. They always got paid and the taxpayers carried the blunt of the slow downs and lack of services.

You're leaving out that the House Ethics committee approved a fact-finding mission that, as submitted, did NOT include any visits with Syrian politicians much less Assad himself. Arguably there would have been 0 blowback had she just not met with a brutal dictator and then parroted his propaganda as fact afterwards. In reality, she intentionally planned the trip as an unofficial one to dodge oversight requirements, the trip was paid for by groups sympathetic to Assad, and she was expecting to meet Syrian politicians from the outset despite claiming to the Ethics commission that she was not.
But please, tell me more about the conduct of Hunter Biden, a man who is not in office, has never been in office, and after 5 years of investigations Republicans could never find anything more serious than gun and tax charges.

It's to the Democratic side's advantage because, amazingly, most Americans understand that Republicans control the House, Senate, and Presidency. If they want to cut healthcare, which is the root issue of the shutdown, they're going to have to do it on a partisan line. There's 0 reason for Dems to give it a bipartisan appearance when the Rs will just do party line rescissions after the fact, or Trump will impound the funds because SCOTUS says actually he can do that.

There is nothing to figure out here. Republicans have already used simple majority rescissions bills to cut out healthcare concessions made TO THEIR OWN SENATORS. See Lisa Murkowski and Alaska's carveouts from the BBB. They have proven they can't be trusted to keep a deal. Anything they "promise" to the Democratic side is worth the paper it's written on.
If Republicans actually wanted to end this, they could. They could vote to remove the filibuster, and then pass their own budget. Dems would not be able to stop it. But Trump's using the shutdown specifically to further gut our civil service, and Republican congressmen are afraid because they would solely own the funding bill and the healthcare cuts they're trying to pass in it, and they desperately don't want that. Not to mention Squeaker Johnson is pissing himself over the thought of resuming session and having to swear in the last Rep needed for the Epstein vote.
if we go into details like these the discussion will go on forever. Whatever you think of these: They have been approved by a US administration and as such have to be fulfilled. The new administration can go ahead and fund other types of projects they deem worthy. That is how democracy works. You won't always get what you want.
