However, the history of it is fascinating, as in 1968, there were plans for it to become the world’s biggest airport.

The funny thing about the airport... it could have been a huge success and a blueprint for future airports. It needed high speed rail to feed it. Make it 15-20 minutes from West Palm, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa/St. Pete, Naples, etc - and it would have worked. So many other areas could have replicated it. Looking at you Dallas... San Fran/Oakland/San Jose... etc.

Isn't this the clown that blatantly ignored a court order and got held in contempt for it? Something about directing state law enforcement to ignore a court stay and enforce an unconstitutional new state law?
A tent city in one of the most active hurricane zones, what could possibly go wrong? As others have said, the cruelty is the point.
Don't commit crimes and you won't have to worry about being sent to such a facility. But as usual people seem to think the worst of criminals are heroes. Never a word about the victims.
There's been quite a few innocents sent to these facilities in the past 4 months, but you lack the mental capacity to grapple with that. Nobody is against imprisoning actual violent criminals after those claims have convinced a jury in court of law, or deporting people who entered outside a port of entry and aren't trying to claim asylum. What people are against is picking up alleged "illegals" off the street and immediately sending them TO A FOREIGN PRISON without a trial. That's illegal, immoral, and un-American. Doesn't matter how they entered the country or what they're accused of.

There are innocents sent to prison after trials wrongly convicted them. Such wrongs need to be corrected and avoided, but we don’t just shut down the criminal justice system. But go ahead and insult someone’s “mental capacity” who has a broader and deeper perspective than you. As for “no one” opposing rounding up illegal immigrants who have committed non-immigration crimes, watch and read the news as well social media; there certainly are people who oppose this (or more accurately, they oppose literally anything Trump does, now including backing IRAN).

Enforcing the law is cruel? Illogical. But “cruelty” is a common talking point.

Please, enlighten me. Because both you and Romey have backed the Trump admin's actions to put deportees IN PRISON indefinitely without any due process. Is your ability to question authority limited to when other team has power? Or just when that authority directly affects you?

I think you mean Salvadorean prisons, not Honduran, but to some people I suppose they all look alike. The point is that it is being called a "temporary detention facility," which to me sounds like a way station before being shipped off to, let's say, South Sudan.
The US provides everyone 12 years of education and then expects some of them to spend the rest of their lives flipping burgers and making beds at Motel 6. The fact is, the economy would fall apart without immigrants, especially in the agriculture and manufacturing sector. Come back when your 401(k) has lost 20% and tell us what you think of negative population growth.

I'm sure all the developed countries would love to hear your ideas on how to get people to have more kids, because lower birthrates are currently the endgame as people get more educated and economies more advanced. Personally, I don't think the GOP platform of "literally do The Handmaid's Tale" is a good idea.

I find it astounding that we, the people of Florida, put up with allowing the governor emergency powers based on a non-existent emergency like immigration. More authoritarian actions by the governor. Between the state legislature and the governor, they are ripping away authority from locally elected bodies and vesting themselves with more and more power.
Show me the company that makes the machine that changes the bed at Motel 6, so I can invest my life savings in it. Unless someone first invents a machine that will watch children at the daycare centers needed for your fertility program.

I live year round in Naples about 30 or so miles north of where this will be. This is all politics specifically those of Mr. DeSantis having seen how cruelty worked for the orange Mussolini in the last Election thinking how well this will work for him when he runs for president again in 2024. There's just one problem. People don't like DeSantis. As a congressman in Washington prior to becoming governor he was ignored even by Republicans in the U.S. House. How truly and pathetically cruel a man he is. There is a very special place in hell for men like Ron DeSantis!
Can you imagine how miserable it would be to live in a tent in the Everglades?? Probably shackled and guarded by fascists or wanna-be-fascists? Remember these people are mostly only guilty of civil violations. They're not criminals. Imagine being treated like that for your unpaid speeding tickets or customs violation.
But I'm not surprised the proto-fascists there (Florida's admin was as vocally fascist as Texas) are eager to grab some federal dollars. I hope that Miami-Dade county (blue, educated) puts up a fight about property ownership.

Strange, most of the businesses @BradStPete mentioned are run and owned by GOP voters. In reality, the Democratic party has wanted to reform the immigration system for a long time now to allow more people to enter legally through existing systems, because the green card quota is obviously not working. The Republican party DOESN'T want to reform the immigration system entirely because their base makes bank exploiting those illegal workers. Proof is in the pudding, Trump revoked the parole system (with much celebration from his base) set up by Biden that allowed Venezuelan, Cuban, Nicaraguan, and Haitian immigrants to enter the US and legally work, as long as they had a business sponsor or family connections here. Many of the people Stephen Miller is deporting are people who LEGALLY entered under that program and are now being told ex post facto that they're here illegally. Citing slavery to support your point just shows you don't actually know anything about the history of the country you supposedly inhabit.
The farmers, and the owners of meat packing plants and senior care facilities , etc, who employ undocumented workers are more likely Republican (and have been complaining to Trump about the roundups). You are exposing the stupidity of Republicans.
