Why isn't Chase investing in more West Coast airports that are far more relevant for their business?
LAX, SFO, SEA all could use a Chase Sapphire lounge given their severe lack of alternative options with how badly Priority Pass has shrunk there. I know tons of people would sign-up, but as it stands, Amex is winning the game with all of those airports have Centurion lounge and Delta SkyClubs, and the Priority Pass from a Chase Sapphire already overlaps with the Amex Plat.
Seems like a missed opportunity for them to grab a bunch of lucrative high spending customers.
-Cap1 best food, NA beverages (not close), apron views, and takeaway
-Amex best adult beverages (not even remotely close), and clientele
-Chase ???
LAX centurion is a sad little dungeon of a lounge. Not worth going to unless you’re in dire need of free drinks.
Yet people still go, because it's one of the only options.
Chase would win so many people over with a solid Sapphire lounge and many Amex customers would jump ship. That's my whole point.
No United hub has a Sapphire Lounge. Maybe Chase does not want to compete with its co-branded United cards, so SAN and DFW make more sense than LAX. If LAX gets built, IAH and ORD should follow next.
IAD is a United hub with a Chase Sapphire lounge. It is in partnership with Etihad but functions as a Chase lounge for all practical purposes.
Capital One opening lounges in JFK Terminal 4 and LGA Terminal B. Amex Centurion and Chase Sapphire both have lounges in these terminals already. With D1 Lounge, two skyclubs, Virgin clubhouse, Emirates lounge, this terminal is already super packed for lounge hopping!
Got a chance to visit the new Sapphire lounge at SAN last weekend. While there the house manager asked where we were headed. When told it was SEA he responded that it was internally being discussed that SEA was getting a Chase lounge in 18-24 months.
It’s now Sept and I thought i’d share my experience.
I traveled all the way to D25, and walked up to what appeared to be a short line of approx 20 people. I got in line and waited. about 3 minutes later an agent came up to me and wanted to make sure I was aware that this line would take 15 min to get through, and that it was only the line to sign up to get on the wait list to get in. She wanted to make sure that my departure time was a couple hours or more later to ensure I had time to get in before I had to start boarding…
Ha, yeah no.
