Looks like whoever’s in charge of the airline’s crew will face the mountainous task of fixing the service culture of the airline. I just hope it won’t involve telling interviewees to strip down to their underwear
This is the airline that didnt land when its toilets overflowed into the coach passenger cabin on a transatlantic flight to NY - no surprise.
Eagerly awaiting the NYT column about how it's unacceptable for passengers to pee on others in the forward cabin, and if they want to pee on another passenger they should buy an economy ticket.
Of course they didn't punish that passenger. I've been in multiple car accidents in India where our drivers wouldn't even exchange information. Instead, "settling" it involved yelling at each other for a few minutes and leaving.
Overheard on Air India:
Elderly woman: "What airspace are we flying through?"
Drunk man: "European."
Reminds me of last years BA flight to Lagos Nigeria where a passenger smeared his poo all over the plane which was subsequently taken out of action to be deep cleaned.
I'm not sure which is worse - flying on Air India or getting peed on...they're both gross.
Okay, let's be honest. This is India. This is a man performing the act. This is a woman being the victim. And people are surprised that nothing happened? Care to read the story going around the Old Media today about a woman being hit by a car in Delhi with five male passengers and then dragged for the next hour. The police actually admitted that they were called at least eight times about this and did nothing.
Women are trash in India, and Air India is proud of representing this "culture".
I'm curious why when the man first opened his fly she didn't yell and push him away? It almost sounds like she just endured the event and didn't push back. Not blaming her, of course, but thinking most people would have immediately yelled "hey, what the hell?" and got attention to the idiot peeing on them. Maybe cultural, maybe just so shocked she didn't act at all. But should someone do this to you I would suggest a more proactive and very loud reprimand of such actions.
At the VERY least she should have been put in a P/C seat but that was probably being used for the crew rest (being facetious). At the most she could have been offered financial compensation or a free ticket/upgrade for her discomfort- even a bottle of French would have been a nice offer. The treatment on the ground was equally as shabby- I bet Air India lost a customer that day...
Flew on AI 45 years ago. Swore never to again. One promise I have kept. I don't know if the FA's did not care because it was a woman who was pee'd upon, tho' you would think there would be same sex sympathy, or maybe it was an all male crew. Anyway, will stick with my promise.
She could have had her eyes closed or about to sleep. She could have been in shock like is this really happening. He could have been so teeny Itty bitty she wasn't sure what she was looking at. Can't assume how people will react at the moment. Always seems easier after the fact. Me on the other hand I would have pointed, laugh then press his face to the puddle like any bad dog.
Yet another reason to turn me off flying AI anywhere at any time.
Most Indian men in and out of India are pigs with women treated as garbage.
How anyone can imagine that AI can be rescued and 'transformed' (with new-ish s/h aircraft) is beyond me. As I posted at the time, how long would it take this lot to thououghly trash the newish interiors ( hope they are all-leather seats). Not too long, I predicted.
The Crew should be sacked. Clearly dereliction of duty and compromusing security of the passenger. Abd for the passenger ge should be immediately arrested.

She apparently didn’t have her eyes closed, as she described what he did before he started peeing. I also wonder why she didn’t yell, since apparently all the other seats had people sitting in them.
Ugh. I’m flying Air India F in two months because there was points availability and it was the best option. Just got nervous.
Just to complete the news article, The man has already been put on no fly list by the airline until the complete investigation report comes out.

This is why we NEVER fly Air India & will happily pay more for the other airlines. Shame on you AI & flight crew for not handling this situation correctly.
There are far too many hateful anti-Indian stereotypical comments here. Of course what this man did was awful, but there are confused drunks in every culture. He was probably so intoxicated and disoriented that he thought he was in the restroom, or was in a dream/fugue state. To generalize to an entire culture is unjustified. Please be civil in this blog!

Disgusting. The police should have met the plane , he should have been arrested and put on the carriers no fly list , crew should have given her the spare F seat. That crew should be performance managed and possibly let go.

There's a lot of sweeping generalizations about India here. Were the same people as diligent about piling on the US back when this happened ? Or is it the case that everything that happens in the US is an exception and everything happening elsewhere is just something that validates your stereotypes and conveniently can be used to tar everyone with ?

On a flight from Moscow to Delhi , one passenger just stood up on the isle , the hostess asked him to sit , but he kept standing , she walked up to him and yanked him down on his seat , thereafter he did not stand up for the next 7 hrs . You need well built persons to work as crew & to tame disobedient passengers , Alas our hostesses are in awe of dignitaries or rich passengers .
