This is nothing short of a shock, since historically both Vietnam and the Philippines have completely shunned the 737, siding instead with the A320 family and the A321 in particular, even though VietJetAir has the 737 MAX on order. This is in great contrast to both Thailand and Indonesia, which have embraced the 737 and A320 but avoided the A321. Garuda Indonesia decided not to operate the 737 MAX after retiring its sole example. A massive coup indeed!
